Information for Teachers and Administrators

Lorain County Community College encourages the awarding of articulated college credit for equivalent, entry-level courses offered by high schools, career centers, adult education programs, and other accredited educational entities.  Such credit awards are made possible by development of a formal, written “articulation agreement” between the sponsoring educational site and the College.

For the partner site: Each articulation agreement is valid for maximum of 2 years, with an annual review as required by federal guidelines. Agreements may be renewed as long as course/outcome equivalency and delivery quality are maintained.

For students from the partner site:  Any credits earned through articulation must be used toward an LCCC degree or certificate program within two years from the date of program completion or the credits are no longer valid. Use/application of the credits depends on the credit(s) earned and the college degree or certificate being pursued.

Courses That Can Be Articulated
In general, a non-LCCC course that meets the SAME STUDENT OUTCOMES as an LCCC entry-level (i.e., 100 numbering) course can be articulated.

There are courses, however, where there are additional considerations regarding content equivalency or student readiness for success in a higher-level course.  Such courses may require discussion with the LCCC faculty member and/or division dean.

For a list of currently articulated LCCC courses, click here. To inquire about a course not listed, please call the Articulated Credit Office at 440-366-4846.

How to Request an Articulated Credit Agreement
Partner sites requesting an agreement for articulated credit must submit the following:

  • A completed LCCC "Request for Articulated Credit" application.
  • Curriculum documentation to demonstrate equivalency (include the following items):
    • Detailed course syllabus
    • Explanation/list of student assignments used in course
    • Explanation/list of student assessments used in course, including grading rubric

Meetings with Course Faculty
Depending on the course, some faculty may require a meeting/discussion with the institution's teacher(s) before articulation is approved.  If a meeting is necessary, it will be noted in the Course Overview information.
