The Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Fund
Since its inception in 1990, the LCCC/Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Golf Benefit has been a partnership among LCCC, businesses, corporations and community members to raise scholarship dollars for students of Lorain County Community College and its University Partnership.
In 1990, Jack Nicklaus helped raise more than $100,000 to establish the Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Fund at the LCCC Foundation. Over the past 16 years, this fund has provided more than $340,000 in scholarships and other financial assistance to over 610 students of LCCC and its University Partnership. With your support of the 2006 event, we can continue this support at an even greater level.
Our Event
The LCCC/Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Golf Benefit is in its 16th year – one of the longest-standing golf events you'll find in Lorain County and Northeast Ohio. Since Jack Nicklaus headlined the event in its first year, LCCC has been proud to host golf pros such as Greg Norman, Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Phil Mickelson, Tom Weiskopf, Jan Stephenson, Jack Nicklaus II, Ian Baker Finch, Andy Bean, Ben Curtis, Janice Moodie and in 2006, Andy North.
The LCCC/Scholarship Golf Benefit is a first class event, offering all of the amenities of a corporate outing that your company might plan for its executives and clients – 18 holes of golf on an outstanding golf course, refreshments, skill games, hole in one prizes, clinic, the chance to win $1 million, a champion golf pro – but all of the logistics and details are taken care of for you! As a sponsor or a golfer, we will ensure that the experience is first-class for you and your guests.
Our Guest Pro – Andy North
Lorain County Community College is pleased to welcome Andy North to the 2006 Golf Event. Mr. North won the U.S. Open twice – in 1978 and 1985 – a rare accomplishment only achieved by 11 other players in golf history. In addition, he won the 1977 American Express Westchester Classic.
On the Champions Tour Mr. North won the 2000 and 2001 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament, both times with Jim Colbert. He enjoyed five top-25 finishes on the Champions Tour in 2003. Also a member of the Senior Tour, Mr. North tied for eighth at the U.S. Senior Open in 2003.
You may have experienced Mr. North's clever and humorous commentary on ESPN – he serves as an analyst on the network's major championship preview and post-game shows and was also a color analyst on various ESPN telecasts prior to joining the Champions Tour in 2000.
When Mr. North isn't golfing or commentating he enjoys watching and participating in a variety of sports, gardening, snow shoeing and biking. He is the author of “The Long and the Short of It,” a book that shares anecdotes, technical advice and wisdom on the game of golf.
Mr. North resides in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Sue and is an avid follower of University of Wisconsin sports.
