THE SELF-EMPLOYMENT ALTERNATIVE; EXPLORING BUSINESS OWNERSHIP
Is owning a business a part of your short term or long-term career strategy? Is entrepreneurship a career path that you would like to learn more about? Are you weighing the merits of owning your own business or purchasing a franchise?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you’ll want to attend the free meeting of the Transitions business-networking group at 7 p.m., Monday, May 12 at Lorain County Community College.
At this meeting, a panel of experts will provide advice on starting your own business. They will provide real world advice on what it takes to develop and grow a successful business and discuss what resources are available to guarantee success. The panel will include:
- Cliff Reynolds, the director of the Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise (GLIDE), a facility that provides support for emerging businesses with a focus on technology-based enterprises.
- Dennis Cocco, associate director at GLIDE. Cocco is responsible for developing marketing and technology-based business strategies. He also identifies and recruits start-up companies to locate within GLIDE.
- Joel Libava, president, Franchise Selection Specialists Inc. He brings real world franchise industry experience to his clients, coming from a franchise management background in the automobile and restaurant/hospitality industries. Crain’s Cleveland Business calls him “The Local Franchising Guru.”
- Paul Kukuca, the executive director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center at the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce. The SBDC connects clients with business resources, provides one-on-one counseling, and training to assist business development.
Transitions is a free networking group for business professionals. It is sponsored by LCCC’s Employment and Career Services office.
Transitions meetings feature short seminars on topics relevant to a successful job search, the sharing of job leads and support, and networking contacts. The group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month in Room CC 228 from 7-8:30 p.m.
