LCCC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER NAMED TO NJCAA DIVISION III THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
Trevor Wenzell, a 6’2” freshman guard on Lorain County Community College’s men’s basketball team, was recently named a third team All-American in Division III of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Wenzell averaged 22.9 points per game and was 7th in the nation for Division III Junior Colleges in scoring. “His stats are astronomical when you look at the schools we played against. We are a Division III school, but we played all Division I and II schools,” said Ralph Berrios, LCCC’s men’s basketball coach.
Wenzell is the first LCCC basketball player since the 1980s to win All-American recognition. “I’m proud of him, he is a phenomenal player and he worked hard in the summer to prepare for this season,” said Berrios.
The Men’s Basketball Team finished the season 12-14 this season, finishing fifth in the OCCAC conference.
“Our team was good,” said Wenzell. “They set me up to make the shots.”
Wenzell graduated from Bay Village High School and helped his team set the school record for wins with 15 and reach the district semifinals.
