TRANSITIONS TO FOCUS ON TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

Whether changing careers or changing jobs, job seekers must know how the skills that they’ve learned through previous employment or life experiences apply to the jobs they are seeking.  Frequently, job seekers don’t give themselves enough credit for the skills that they’ve acquired in areas such as communications, problem solving and customer service.  These are valuable transferable skills that all employers need to successfully compete.

To learn how you can assess your transferable skills and apply them to your job search, plan to attend the next meeting of Transitions at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11.  This highly interactive session will provide tips for identifying and leveraging your transferable skills. Maureen Hess and Phil Mikita from Lorain County Community College’s Employment and Career Services Center will facilitate the session.

Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes and previous job descriptions to this event.

Transitions is a free networking group for business professionals. It is sponsored by Lorain County Community College. Transitions meetings feature short seminars on topics relevant to a successful job search, job leads and support, and networking contacts.  The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month from 7-8:30 pm in Room 228 of LCCC’s College Center building.

To register for this session or for more information about Transitions, call 1-800-995-5222 (extension  4076), or (440) 366-4076.  Registrations can also be made online at http://www.lorainccc.edu/careers.
