Honors Program Provides the Challenge You’re Looking For

Are you looking for more challenge from your course work? Motivated students with superior reading, writing and analytical skills may consider joining the Honors Program at LCCC.

With two different program tracks, the Honors Program caters to those looking for a full schedule of excelled courses or those who wish to take one or two honors classes in select subjects. Honors courses offered spring semester include ENGL 162, HSTR 152, PHYL 161 and BIOG 162.

“The opportunities for more personal discussion and interaction with the professor and classmates are more accessible than in the mainstream courses. This creates an environment of heightened learning potential and support,” said Sarah Murphey, who completed an honors course in English.

Current LCCC students may apply for the Honors Program after completing nine credit hours at LCCC and must have either an LCCC GPA of 3.25 or higher or have two letters of recommendation from LCCC faculty. Transfer students must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

LCCC students entering from high school or PSEO students must meet two of the following criteria: a high school GPA of 3.25 or higher; a minimum SAT score of 1100 or a minimum ACT score of 25; or two letters of recommendation from high school teachers.

Students interested in the Honors Program should talk to their academic advisor or contact Honors Program co-directors Dr. Valerie McGowen-Doyle at (440) 366-473 or vmcgowen@lorainccc.edu, or Dr. Jonathon Dryden at (440) 366-4730 or jdryden@lorainccc.edu.
