World Renowned Musicians to Perform in Signature Series Concert at Stocker Arts Center
A trio of highly acclaimed musicians will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. November 20 at Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center Studio Theatre.
Pianist Andrea McAlister, mezzo-soprano Fenlon Lamb and violist Scot Buzza will perform as part of the Signature Series of concerts sponsored by LCCC’s Division of Arts and Humanities. LCCC distinguished professor and composer Jeffrey Mumford is the series host. The performance is free and open to the public.
The concert will include Viola Sonata, Op 11, No. 4 by Paul Hindemith and Songs for Voice, Viola, & Piano Op. 91 by Johannes Brahms, as well as a selection of Spanish songs.
“The Signature Series brings world class musicians to Lorain County, with a special focus to present at least one African-American composer or musician per season,” Mumford explained. “The other focus is to showcase local performers, as well as internationally famous performers.”
McAlister is assistant professor of Piano Pedagogy at Oberlin. She previously taught at Capital University, Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, where she also received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy.
Lamb consistently garners critical acclaim for her performances in operas, such as “Le Nozze Di Figaro,” “Don Giovanni,” “Rigoletto” and “Carmen” with Cleveland Opera and many other companies. She is currently in the Opera Cleveland production of “Don Giovanni.”
Buzza has had a career with orchestras on four continents. In 1987 he became principal violist of the Tokyo Philharmonic, and in 1990 he became soloist-principal violist of the Chamber Orchestra of Barcelona, Spain. He is on the faculty at Northern Kentucky University, teaches Sacred Music curriculum at the University of Cincinnati and is Director of Liturgical Music at Xavier University.
In its inaugural season, the Signature Series brings the finest musicians to LCCC. Upcoming performances include violist Eliesha Nelson with pianist Shanelle Cook on March 10, and violinist Joel Smirnoff with pianist Christopher Oldfather on April 25.
