CHANCELLOR’S ENROLL OHIO TOUR TO STOP AT LORAIN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE FEBRUARY 11
Participants will explore social media in higher education and discuss how to enroll more students in the University System of Ohio
The University System of Ohio is launching “Enroll Ohio,” an effort to help more Ohioans know their options to attend and pay for higher education. On Thursday, February 11, Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut will bring the “Enroll Ohio” tour to Lorain County Community College, the only Northeast Ohio stop on its five city tour of the state.
The tour, part of the statewide campaign to help more Ohioans access a college education, will bring together a variety of people including educators, admissions counselors, legislators, financial aid officers, students and more for an open discussion about making it easy and affordable to pursue a higher education. It is open to the public.
“Our strategic plan for higher education is a blueprint for helping more Ohioans get the education they need,” said Chancellor Fingerhut. “But we know there is more that we can do. We want to discover additional ways to make college an affordable reality for Ohioans, and using social media, and then share what we find with as many people as possible.”
The day will kick off with a high-energy session called “Beyond the Mainstream: Thriving in a Digital Media World,” from 1-3 p.m. in the LCCC John A. Spitzer Conference Center Grand Room. Dr. Debra Jasper and Betsy Hubbard from The Ohio State University’s John Glenn School of Public Affairs will provide a thought-provoking presentation that shows how social media is being used to reach students, parents, community leaders, and others.
This will be followed by Chancellor Fingerhut hosting an open conversation - from 3-5 p.m. also in the Grand Room – to better understand the successes and challenges related to enrolling students and helping them stay in school. He is seeking input at this session from everyone to help shape state approaches to higher education.
This discussion will feature Lorain County Community College’s Groupware technology, collecting participants’ ideas in real time so that the immediate feedback can shape the discussion.
The February 11 event is the third stop in the series of five regional forums to be held around the state. The others are:
