SUCCESSFUL CEO AND FORMER LCCC STUDENT TO SHARE ADVICE AT EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM
Business and education leaders have an opportunity to learn the secrets of success from a retired Army general, profitable businessman and Lorain County native at the Executive Leadership Symposium at Lorain County Community College.
Josue (Joe) Robles Jr., president and CEO of USAA, will share his thoughts with a select audience of local leaders as the keynote speaker at the Executive Leadership Symposium luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 5 in the Grand Room of LCCC’s Spitzer Conference Center. The luncheon is a fundraiser sponsored by Leadership Lorain County and the Lorain County Community College Foundation, and proceeds are supporting student scholarships.
Robles spent 28 years in the U.S. Army before retiring as a decorated major general in 1994. Following his retirement, Robles began a career serving veterans and those associated with the military through USAA , one of America’s leading financial services companies. He filled a variety of leadership roles with the organization and was named president and CEO in 2007.
At a time when many financial institutions are struggling, USAA has remained profitable under Robles’ leadership. Blending the values he honed in the military with business strategies, Robles has increased employee morale and kept the company forging ahead. With Robles at the executive table, the USAA has quadrupled its assets and increased deposits more than six fold in the past decade – all without acquisitions.
For his success, he was named 2009’s “Innovator of the Year” by American Banker and The Christian Science Monitor named him “No. 1 Veteran of the Year” the same year.
Born in Puerto Rico, Robles and his family moved to Lorain when he was 3. His father, who had a fourth-grade education, worked in a steel mill and pushed his children to excel academically. During his first year of courses at Lorain County Community College in 1965, Robles was called to serve in the Vietnam War. He remained dedicated to the military for nearly three decades and also earned his bachelor of administration degree in accounting from Kent State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University.
The symposium will provide an opportunity for Northeast Ohio executives to learn, network and discuss strategies for success with Robles and local professionals.
Individual tickets may be purchased for $75, tables of eight are available for $500. Sponsorship opportunities are available. To reserve tickets or for more information, call (440) 366-7636 or visit www.lorainccc.edu/symposium.
