Hiram’s Weekend College Offers Bachelor’s Degree through Lorain County Community College’s University Partnership Program
Lorain County Community College students will now be able to pursue a bachelor degree in accounting and financial management as a result of a new partnership between Hiram College and LCCC.
Beginning February 13, Hiram’s innovative Weekend College, will offer courses in accounting and financial management through LCCC’s University Partnership program. Hiram’s Weekend College, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, offers adults and non-traditional students the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degrees by attending classes every other weekend. Now LCCC students in the program will be able to take the bachelor’s degree courses at the LCCC campus in Elyria.
The addition of Hiram College to LCCC’s University Partnership program brings the number of partner schools to nine. These colleges and universities offer 30 bachelor’s programs and eight graduate programs through the University Partnership on the LCCC campus.
“We are pleased to be able to offer LCCC students the opportunity to move up to the next level of educational achievement and earn their full bachelor’s degree in the intimate learning experience that Hiram’s Weekend College provides,” said Paul Bowers, Vice President and Dean of Extended learning at Hiram. “For 35 years now, the Weekend College’s has provided a great liberal arts education with small classes and personal attention from faculty, in a flexible, affordable format that doesn’t interfere with non-traditional students’ careers, or family obligations. Now, LCCC’s students can have the same educational experience as they pursue their own success on their own terms, with a bachelor’s degree.”
“This is a great opportunity for our students to be able to continue on and earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting,” said John Crooks, Associate Provost of the LCCC University Partnership program. “We continually seek high quality partners like Hiram to bring some of the most in-demand degrees to the UP where they are in reach of our county residents.”
This spring, LCCC students in the Weekend College program will be able to take courses in accounting information systems, federal taxation, and human trafficking, as well as a workshop in business ethics. The courses will be taught by Hiram’s faculty Friday evenings and Saturdays at LCCC, and may involve some interactive video and online coursework. More degree programs are planned, including Integrated Environmental Studies. Financial aid is available for all courses in the LCCC program.
