Tax Filing EITC

CITIZENS OF LORAIN COUNTY CAN FILE TAXES FREE WITH
THE LORAIN COUNTY EITC COALITION

Free tax assistance available for most  households earning less than $60,000 annually

Tax season is quickly approaching, and thousands of Ohioans will soon begin the filing process to ensure that they receive their refunds. To save taxpayers a little extra money this year, when individuals and families can use every extra dollar, helping friends, neighbors and family members – even ourselves – get connected to free services is crucial. The Lorain County EITC Coalition is dedicated to helping income eligible individuals obtain free federal and state income tax assistance. Using both the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) and the Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB) the Lorain County EITC Coalition is able to help households earning less than $60,00 annually to electronically file federal and state returns.

“Too many Ohio taxpayers miss out on receiving free tax assistance each year just because either they don’t know it’s available or they don’t know where to get this valuable service,” said Amy Szmania, Outreach Services Specialist for Lorain County Community College – a Lorain County EITC Coalition member. “In addition, at least one in every four taxpayers eligible for the EITC fails to claim the credit, which is why the Lorain County EITC Coalition is urging residents to come and visit our sites to learn more so they don’t miss out on potential benefits and tax savings this year.”

The Lorain County EITC Coalition will be hosting several tax clinics throughout the area with the first being held from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th at two locations: Elyria Public Library, West Branch (1194 West River Rd. North, Elyria, Ohio 44035) and Lorain Public Library, Main (351 Sixth Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052). There will also be a free clinic held on Saturday, February 11th from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. at the LCCC Learning Center inside St. Joseph Community Center. In addition to these events there are clinics in Oberlin, Wellington and daily walk-in hours at locations across the county.
