LCCC Volleyball Team 2012LCCC VOLLEYBALL PLACES 2ND IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Lorain County Community College volleyball team won second place honors in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Regional tournament play.

The team won two of three matches before advancing to the finals of the tournament, which was held in Butler, PA., in October.

The LCCC Commodores won their first match in the tournament 3-0 against Butler County Community College. The Commodores lost their second match to Howard Community College, and won the spot in the finals by beating Montgomery College 3-1.

In the final match against Howard, the LCCC Commodores battled hard but eventually fell in a five-set match. “The game was so intense that the referee commented that it was one of the best volleyball matches he’d ever seen,” said LCCC Volleyball Coach Marc Pogachar.

In addition to taking second place in the tournament, LCCC players also won honors. Team captains Katarina Kovach, of North Ridgeville, and Teresa Trucco of Columbus, along with Hannah Pinkie, of North Olmsted, were selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament team.

LCCC finished their season play with a 24 -14 record and a 10th place ranking in the NJCAA Division III polls.

“This team was what every good volleyball team should be: focused, dedicated, and willing to work to improve,” Pogachar said. “They were able to adapt, and at every point gave the level of effort that champions have. I couldn’t be prouder to be associated with this group.”
