ELYRIA– The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Northern Ohio District Office today recognized the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Lorain County Community College with its Service Excellence and Innovation Award. This award honors a local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for its excellence in providing value to small businesses and advancing program delivery and management through innovation.

Gil Goldberg, District Director, U.S. Small Business Administration’s Northern Ohio District office, presented Kimberly Plzak, Director of the Center, with the award as part of the annual observance of National Small Business Week.  The ceremony took place at the Lorain County Community College’s Desich Business and Entrepreneurship Center.

“The SBA is proud to honor Kimberly Plzak and the staff of the SBDC at Lorain County Community College,” said Mr. Goldberg.  “The results of their counseling, advice and support to those working to pursue or grow small businesses has strengthened the local economy.  Under Ms. Plzak’s leadership, her team’s outstanding work is greatly deserving of this recognition.”

“The SBDC of Lorain County plays an integral role in the development and growth of business in the county,” said Lorain County Administrator Jim Cordes. “It works closely with the College and all members of the Lorain County Growth Partnership to keep local businesses competitive.  It is this fabric of support that makes Lorain County an ideal place to start and grow a company.”

The Ohio Small Business Development Centers Network is the premier technical assistance program for Ohio’s small businesses. The network is provided through a partnership between the Ohio Development Services Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and selected Ohio chambers of commerce, colleges and universities, and economic development agencies. Today, these federal, state, and local partnerships contribute more than $10 million in cash and resources to the support of small business development in Ohio. Lorain County Community College serves as the award winner’s local host organization.
