Abbe Road Widening Project

Traffic disruptions will continue through May 2014 north of LCCC to Detroit Road as utility and road work progresses to widen Abbe Road.

The Abbe Road Widening Project is nearly completed.

Construction will resume Monday, April 7, weather permitting, with project completion expected by May 30.

The major remaining items of work include:

  • Construction of an 8’ – 10’ wide asphalt side path along the east side of Abbe Rd. from the intersection of Anitoch Dr./Lorain County Community College Entrance and Abbe at the south end of the project all the way to the Detroit Rd. / Abbe intersection at the north end of the project.
  • Construction of concrete curb ramps at intersections and major drives along the east side of the road associated with the construction of the side path.
  • Replacement of many of the traffic signs.
  • Placement of the final pavement striping.
  • Completion and fine tuning of the traffic signals.
  • Installation of the overhead truss sign.

Weather permitting, construction of the asphalt side path will begin Monday, April 7. The plan is to begin work at the south end (the intersection of Anitoch/LCCC Entrance) and work north towards Detroit. This work will require the creation of a work zone for construction vehicles and materials which will block the curb lane in the northbound direction. The work zone will initially be short, but will lengthen towards Detroit Rd. as the work progresses in that direction.

Access to all drives along the east side of Abbe Road will be maintained during this work with some short term disruptions when construction is actually being performed immediately adjacent to a drive.

All work for the project is to be completed by May 30.
