#1 Raise the Community’s Participation and Attainment in Higher Education

Initiatives

Enrollment and Retention Strategies for 40% Increase by 2015

• Increase by 40%, enrollment, retention and completion rates for LCCC students by the year 2015. This increase reflects the recommendation of the Governors CHEE Report for higher education enrollment in Ohio.

Technology and Delivery Models to Enhance Learning Experiences

• Use new and emerging technologies and delivery models to continuously improve instruction, information access and the quality of student services in support departments and the community.

Increasing Affordability

• Continue commitment to low cost tuition and fees while expanding opportunities for access.

University Partnership

• Develop and implement new degree programs and partners for the University Partnership in response to the emerging economic and high-growth sector job markets.

Expand Outreach Centers

• Create outreach efforts with new delivery models to take education opportunities closer to underserved populations and offer more flexible learning opportunities to overcome barriers to college attendance and graduation.

Formalized Community P-16 Council

• Formalize a Lorain County P-16 Council that has a systematic approach seeking to integrate the separate systems of education from preschool to postsecondary programs. The Council will include educational institutions, community organizations, and local businesses, and will use a data-driven process to identify the leaks in the alignment of local educational systems.

Educational Campaigns

• Conduct ongoing education campaigns for youth, their families, and young adults, on the value of higher education, career exploration and advisement, and lifelong skill enhancements.

Enhanced Learner Services

• Create a learning environment where students are engaged and connected with resources and services that lead to success.

#2 Prepare Globally-Competent Talent to Compete in the Innovation Economy

Initiatives

Alignment of Education and Training with Market Needs

• Align resources with market needs for education and training systems to respond to current and future needs of employers and new entrepreneurs including recruitment, management and training of employees.

STEM Initiatives Development (science, technology, engineering, math)

• Develop and implement STEM programs (science, technology, engineering, math, medicine) and provide career advisement that emphasizes student enrollment in these specific programs.

Entrepreneurial Skills

• Educate for innovation and entrepreneurship by offering a comprehensive entrepreneurship pathway.

Career Awareness and Opportunities

• Strengthen career awareness and advising for potential and current students, integrate work experience directly with the learning process, and assist employers with the recruitment of new hires of our students and alumni.

Transitional Populations and New Job Opportunities

• Equip adults who are underemployed or not employed with skills training needed in the constantly changing workplace. Also, motivate employers to invest in the upgrading of skills of the current workforce.

#3 Accelerate Business and Job Growth to Enhance Regional Competitiveness

Initiatives

Small and Medium Business Focus

• Increase the number of human resource functions and workforce performance enhancements of small and medium-sized businesses through increased College services that support human resource functions with the Lorain County Growth Partnership.

Economic Development Collaboration

• Foster collaboration in economic development through regional and local partnerships with the Great Lakes Technology Park and GLIDE.

Capital and Growth Services for Innovation

• Provide pre-seed capital through the new Innovation Fund and other business growth services to those with sound business ideas.

Emerging Technologies Growth

• Nurture growth of emerging technology and other enterprises through the expanded services of GLIDE, the Advanced Technology Center, Lean/Six Sigma Institute and other College services.

Great Lakes Technology Park and GLIDE Partnerships

• Foster collaboration in economic development through regional and local partnerships with the Great Lakes Technology Park and GLIDE to provide quality market-rate space for high growth businesses.

Global Supply Chains

• Stimulate supply chain linkages based on local strengths.

#4 Connect Lorain County with Regional Priorities and Partners

Initiatives

Northeast Ohio Economic Development Agenda

• Contribute to and benefit from the Advance Northeast Ohio Agenda implementation to transform the economy of Northeast Ohio.

Innovation Alliance

• Implement, grow and expand the Innovation Alliance to have a greater impact on the development of the region than the partners could do independently.

Leverage Workforce Investment Dollars

• Leverage additional federal and state dollars to support workforce development (like the federal WIRED grant) and help foster collaboration among regional Workforce Investment Boards and others involved in policy setting and allocation of government education and training dollars.

#5 Serve as Catalyst for Enhanced Community Life

Initiatives

Quality Arts and Culture Experiences

• Expose the community to new and creative thought through arts and cultural experiences.

International Opportunities

• Increase County's International and cultural education, cultural exchanges and enhanced foreign language skill development.

Diversity Framework

• Promote and embrace the full range of human diversity to enrich the entire campus and surrounding community.

Community Planning and Decision-Making Participation

• Increase participation in the planning and decision-making process.

Awareness and Use of Emerging Technologies

• Assist in creating greater access to high-speed connectivity in low income and more remote communities.

Wellness Opportunities for the Community

• Expand opportunities for the community to learn and participate in healthy activities to encourage a vibrant and productive lifestyle.

#6 Build the College’s Resource Capacity

Initiatives

Human Resources Development

• Design and develop human resources as a strategic asset by building the College's infrastructure through faculty and staff development.

Emerging Technology

• Use the power of emerging information technology to respond to the community using more effective educational, administrative and business practices fulfilling the College's vision using the limited resources available.

Local Resources

• Secure adequate resources for the College’s future through ongoing local levy support that continues and enhances the necessary infrastructure. 

Efficiencies through Shared Resources

• Stimulate cross-sector relationships and cooperation to develop new partnerships to enhance resources.

Federal and State Funding Opportunities

• Secure federal and state funding opportunities to enhance and complement other College resource development.

LCCC Foundation Enhancement

• Increase the philanthropic fund-raising to support College programs and initiatives.
