#1 Raise the Community’s Participation and Attainment in Higher Education

Initiatives

Enrollment and Retention Strategies for 40% Increase by 2015

• Increase by 40%, enrollment, retention and completion rates for LCCC students by the year 2015. This increase reflects the recommendation of the Governors CHEE Report for higher education enrollment in Ohio.

Technology and Delivery Models to Enhance Learning Experiences

• Use new and emerging technologies and delivery models to continuously improve instruction, information access and the quality of student services in support departments and the community.

Efficiency and Affordability

• Proactively commit to maintaining means for efficiency and affordability.

Expanded University Partnership

• Develop and implement new degree programs and partners in the University Partnership to include joint Applied Baccalaureate Degree programs in response to the emerging economic and high-growth sector job markets.

Outreach Centers

• Create outreach efforts with new delivery models to take education opportunities closer to underserved populations and offer more flexible learning opportunities to overcome barriers to college attendance and graduation.

Formalized Community P-16 Council

• Formalize a Lorain County P-16 Council that has a systematic approach seeking to integrate the separate systems of education from preschool to postsecondary programs. The Council will include educational institutions, community organizations, and local businesses and will use a data-driven process to identify the leaks in the alignment of local educational systems.

Educational Campaigns

• Conduct on-going education campaigns for youth, their families, and young adults, on the value of higher education, career exploration and advisement, and lifelong skill enhancements.

Enhanced Student Services

• Make more readily available college tutoring, college mentoring, and other student support services to enhance all students’ success, including special populations, in achieving college completion.

#2 Prepare Globally-Competent Talent to Compete in the Innovation Economy

Initiatives

Alignment of Education and Training with Market Needs

• Align resources with market needs for education and training systems to respond to current and future needs of employers and new entrepreneurs including recruitment, management and training of employees. Also, assist non-profits employers by providing continuing education opportunities for their staff.

STEM Initiatives Development (science, technology, engineering, math)

• Develop STEM programs (science, technology, engineering, math) and provide career advisement that emphasizes student engagement in these specific programs.

Entrepreneurial Skills

• Educate for innovation and entrepreneurship by offering a comprehensive entrepreneurship pathway.

Career Awareness and Opportunities

• Strengthen career awareness and advising for potential and current students, integrate work experience directly with the learning process by providing greater funding for programs like internships and job mentoring, and assist employers with the recruitment of new hires of our students and alumni.

Transitional Populations and New Job Opportunities

• Equip adults who are underemployed or not employed with skills training needed in the constantly changing workplace. Also, motivate employers to invest in the upgrading of skills of the current workforce.

#3 Accelerate Business and Job Growth to Enhance Regional Competitiveness

Initiatives

Small and Medium Business Focus

• In partnership with the Lorain County Growth Partnership, facilitate the enhancement of human resource functions and workforce performance of small and medium sized businesses.

Economic Development Collaboration

• Foster economic development through new and current collaborations through GLIDE and the Great Lakes Technology Park partnerships.

Capital and Growth Services for Innovation

• Provide pre-seed capital through the new Innovation Fund and other business growth services to those with sound business ideas.

Emerging Technologies Growth

• Nurture growth of emerging technology and other enterprises through the expanded services of GLIDE, the Advanced Technology Center, Lean/Six Sigma Institute, and other College services.

Great Lakes Technology Park and GLIDE Partnerships

• Foster collaboration in economic development through regional and local partnerships with the Great Lakes Technology Park and GLIDE to provide quality market-rate space for high growth businesses.

Global Supply Chains

• Stimulate supply chain linkages based on local strengths.

#4 Connect Lorain County with Regional Priorities and Partners

Initiatives

Leadership Capacity Growth

• Foster new leadership capacity through participation in and accessing of resources of regional initiatives for economic development (MAGNET, TeamNEO, JumpStart, Nortech, etc.)

Networks to Facilitate Planning across Borders

• Establish greater collaboration among local WIB boards with responsibility for setting policy and allocating federal and state education and training funds.

Regional Engagement and Information Sharing

• Strengthen organizations that bring together regional leaders and entities to share information, exchange ideas, and encourage regional policies through cross-sector relationships and cooperation.

#5 Serve as Catalyst for Enhanced Community Life

Initiatives

Quality Arts and Culture Experiences

• Expose the community to new and creative thought through arts and cultural experiences.

International Opportunities

• Demonstrate the College’s strong commitment to international education through the creation of educational and cultural exchanges and enhanced foreign language skill development to reflect emerging global economic powers.

Community Planning and Decision-Making Participation

• Provide innovative ways for citizens and leaders to actively participate in the planning and decision-making process.

Awareness and Use of Emerging Technologies

• Assist in creating greater access to high-speed connectivity in low income and more remote communities.

#6 Build the College’s Resource Capacity

Initiatives

Local Resources

• Secure adequate resources for the College’s future through on-going local levy support that continues and enhances the necessary infrastructure.

Emerging Technology

• Use the power of information technology guided by the LCCC IT Strategy with more effective educational, administrative, and business practices to enable the College to respond to the community in the competitive global environment of the 21^st Century.

Efficiencies through Shared Resources

• Stimulate cross-sector relationships and cooperation to develop new partnerships to enhance resources.

Federal and State Funding Opportunities

• Seek federal and state funding opportunities to complement other College resource development.

LCCC Foundation Enhancement

• Significantly increase the endowment through the addition of new unrestricted or broadly restricted budget supporting gifts to support College programs and initiatives.

Human Resources Development

• Design and develop human resources as a strategic asset by building the College’s infrastructure through faculty and staff development.
