This course is designed to increase awareness of the effects of cultural diversity on health status, health care, and the health care system in the United States. The role of the health care provider in caring for culturally diverse clients is addressed. Basic concepts, theories, and issues related to transcultural health care are addressed along with strategies for incorporating culturally appropriate care into the health care setting. Teaching strategies are varied to promote cognitive, behavioral and affective changes in the student related to cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, cultural skill, and cultural sensitivity. |
