To showcase the importance of manufacturing in Lorain County, business, industry, government and education have developed a series of activities for high school students through adults all in the month of October. Events that are scheduled during Manufacturing Month in Lorain County are listed below.

Celebrate the Importance of Manufacturing

“Manufacturing Has Come Back and There Are More Gains to Come” screams a headline that recently appeared in the August 2015 Forbes. Well here in Lorain County, it’s never gone away. It has changed since the early days of manufacturing in Northeast Ohio, no doubt, but has always been a lead component of our local economy. And while the number of manufacturing jobs peaked in 1979, production peaked in 2007, and according to the Forbes’ article, we are about one year away from going past that benchmark. Even as the dollar continues to gain strength in the world economy, so much of what we manufacture stays domestically. Car sales are as good as they’ve been since 2006 and this is good news for our economy in Lorain County and our nearly 18,000 manufacturing jobs.

The Lorain County Growth Partnership is again this year proud to promote October as Manufacturing Month. This is the fourth year that the State of Ohio has declared October the month to recognize our local manufacturers and to bring a career in manufacturing as an option to our middle school and high school students as well as our transitioning workforce. Members of the LCGP include: The Lorain County Commissioners, the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce, Lorain County Community Development, Team Lorain County, Lorain County Community College, Lorain County Joint Vocational Schools and Ohio Means Jobs Lorain County.

Our collaboration with businesses and educators gives us an opportunity for open dialogue to understand the skills needed for future employees and allows our schools to show what they are doing to prepare students for the workforce.
