Through this program, students can potentially earn a two-year Accredited Associate of Applied Science Degree with a focus on Electric Utility Technology.

Qualified students will receive FREE tuition, including college fees, books and protective clothing.

PROPOSED COURSE CURRICULUM

GENERAL COURSES:
College Composition I; Technical Math I; College 101; Oral Communications; Technical Report Writing; General Physics I; Basic Concepts – Economics; Intro to Workplace Relations; and Principles of Management

TECHNICAL COURSES:
Electrical Circuits I & II; Technical Problem Solving; NEC & Electrical Systems Design; Transmission & Distribution; Switchgear, Transformers and Controls; FirstEnergy Technology Labs; and Summer Field Experience

FIELD EXPERIENCE:
Following the second semester, you’ll be required to participate in a paid 14-week (40 hr/week) evaluated field experience. Students will be compensated at a rate of $14.00 per hour. Field experience will begin in May and end in August. Pre-employment screening is required.

STEPS IN THE SELECTION PROCESS – SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE EACH STEP TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT

Lineman PhotoSTEP 1: Information Session – Come to an information session for an introduction to the program. The next date has not yet been set. Call FirstEnergy at 1-800-829-6801 for more information.

STEP 2: Technical Evaluation – Prospective students will be evaluated on a series of hands-on activities that are performed on the job. Pre-registration is required.

STEP 3: Placement Testing – Prior to registering in classes, you’ll take placement testing in reading, math and writing.

STEP 4: Background Check – Prospective students must successfully pass a background check.

STEP 5: Physical Capabilities Assessment – Test your strength and endurance to ensure you are right for this line of work.

STEP 6: Climbing Course – Learn the basics of climbing wood poles or steel structures and qualify to free-climb.

STEP 7: Classes begin.
