Nanny Academy

The Nanny Academy

New Program Begins January 2013

The Early Childhood Education program at LCCC is offering a new program beginning January 2013. The Nanny Academy provides students the knowledge, values and skills to work effectively with children in a home environment. The mission of the program is to provide students with the education and experience to assist children’s development in the domain areas of physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional growth in a healthy and safe environment. In addition, it helps students work collaboratively with the family in a manner that promotes positive communication in the best interest of the children.

The 21-week program requires students to be enrolled in classes Monday through Thursday as well as an assigned practicum site (family home) on Fridays. This is an intensive program that requires students to be organized, professional in dress, have excellent communication skills both written and oral and knowledgeable in child development. Some of the activities students will be required to complete while in the practicum families home are planning healthy meals, interacting with the family, creating developmentally appropriate activities for the children, accompanying family on outings (park, zoo, store, movies).

Prospective students must have the following to be considered a candidate for the program:

  • Completed a high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have a good driving record (documentation required)
  • Complete both BCI and FBI (no misdemeanors or felonies)
  • Physical with a TB test
  • Four professional letters of reference (typed and from someone in a professional field)
  • Liability insurance through LCCC

To begin the process, students must complete an application form:

Once the application is received, students who meet all of the requirements will be called for a one-hour interview with one of the early childhood faculty and/or coordinator or the early childhood education program.

Families who wish to participate as a site for the practicum family on Fridays from 7:30 am -1 pm must have an adult present to serve as a role model. Practicum families will be required to complete an application, have a background check and a brief home visit.
