About the Lorain County Physicians/Community College Continuing Medical Education Consortium
In 1997, physician representatives of the Lorain County Medical Society met with the Director of Allied Health and Nursing and the Coordinator of Continuing Education for Health Care Practitioners at Lorain County Community College. The goal was to create professional development opportunities for physicians in Lorain County.

Mission Statement of the CME Consortium
The Lorain County Physicians/Community College Continuing Medical Education (CME) Consortium is committed to promoting lasting, usable education through a systematic educational process (which identifies learning needs, plans, implements and evaluates CME activities). The purpose of the CME Consortium is to assist the physicians residing in/or practicing in Lorain County in acquiring the most current information in medical care diagnostic and therapeutic advances, medical legislation and other areas that are essential to the continuing practice of medicine. This process shall be governed by the CME Committee, which has a major function, in addition to overseeing the entire CME Program, in planning, implementing and evaluating all CME activities. Types of CME activities utilized to meet learning needs include lectures, seminars and workshops, and case presentations. Potential participants of the CME activities are physicians in Lorain County and surrounding areas, nurses, physical assistants, technicians and other allied health practitioners |
The result was the Lorain County Physician/Community College Continuing Medical Education Consortium. Through the consortium and with the approval of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), category 1 credits are available to physicians within Lorain County.
Key Objectives are:

To promote lasting, usable education which improves patient care in Lorain County.

To assist the physicians residing or practicing in Lorain County in acquiring the most current information in medical care, diagnostic and therapeutic advances, medical legislation and other areas which are essential to the continuing practice of medicine and quality patient care.

To plan at least 20 hours of category 1 Continuing Medical Education credit activities to help meet the educational requirements for Ohio State Medical Licenser.

To encourage and support affordable, accessible continuing medical education activities for nurses, physician assistants, technicians, allied health practitioners and health-career students.

Steering Committee
The Steering Committee of the consortium consists of nine physicians, and two Lorain County Community College representatives; the Allied Health & Nursing Division Director, and the staff assistant for Continuing Education for Health Care Practitioners.
