About GLIDE

GLIDE Great Lakes Innovation & Development Enterprise

Helping You Wrap A Business Structure Around Your Dream.

The Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise (GLIDE), founded in 2001, is a comprehensive regional innovation center, resource hub, and business incubator that supports all facets of the start-up, development, and growth of enterprises. Created by a partnership between the Lorain County Commissioners, Lorain County Community College, and the Ohio Department of Development, GLIDE’s objective is to grow jobs and spearhead economic growth in both Lorain County and the Northern Ohio region.

GLIDE offers assistance across the entire business development continuum. Because GLIDE is publicly funded, it provides assessments of a business or a business idea by seasoned entrepreneurs and business executives at no charge to any individual or company who request this service. Our business assessment is also available on-line through GLIDE’s website at www.glideit.org. GLIDE has worked with more than 1700 entrepreneurs since its inception in May 2001.

Through its relationship with education, government, and commerce, and its network of service providers, GLIDE is able to offer a variety of services to entrepreneurs and companies to accelerate growth. Rather than reinvent services currently offered within Northern Ohio, GLIDE’s role is to provide free linkage for entrepreneurs to existing service providers and to find ways to fill the gaps for services not currently offered. GLIDE has developed an extensive network of service providers in areas such as capital funding, sales and marketing, legal and financial assistance, human resource development, and IT support.

The key to GLIDE’s success has been its ability to take any business, regardless of the technology or industry, and focus specifically on the business development process helping to bring clarity and understanding to the entrepreneur.

GLIDE’s advisors have extensive experience in business, having developed their skills and expertise in both entrepreneurial ventures and corporate leadership roles. Their combined experience includes leading organizations in sales, marketing, business development, technology, engineering, materials and distribution, quality control, strategic development, consulting and business development.

EDISON TECHNOLOGY INCUBATOR
In July 2006, GLIDE was designated an Edison Technology Incubator. This award allows GLIDE to support entrepreneurs, often with limited resources, to further develop their product or service by drawing upon the proven expertise of our GLIDE advisors. As a business incubator, we provide tenant companies with space, furniture and equipment at well below market rates.

Providing that specific criteria are met, companies can apply for co-location at the GLIDE Incubator facility in the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center, located on the campus of Lorain County Community College. This co-location provides opportunities for frequent guidance and assistance from the GLIDE staff; access to the college infrastructure and students; and interaction and collaboration with other co-located companies.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP INNOVATION INSTITUTE’S ADVANCED GROWTH SERVICES
Entrepreneurs, under a more formal arrangement with GLIDE, have the option of accessing the expertise of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Institute’s Advanced Growth Service providers by becoming a GLIDE Client Company. GLIDE's Client Companies are new or growing companies that have formed an alliance with GLIDE to foster local job growth, innovation, and economic development within Northern Ohio. This fee-for-service relationship allows companies to access GLIDE's network of strategic planning service providers, business plan development resources, market research data, and other business development resources.

In addition to the direct services provided to entrepreneurs and companies, GLIDE works to build the behind-the-scenes support required for these groups to flourish including the support of entrepreneurship and innovation education; the development of appropriate capital funds and support networks that enable businesses to grow; and the expansion of understanding among all sectors of society…social services, government, education, and business…about the role of entrepreneurs and innovators in the future of the region.

A BUSINESS IS A BUSINESS IS A BUSINESS
GLIDE focuses on the business process rather than specific technologies thereby ensuring that many more ideas, companies, and people at any stage of enterprise development have a place to go for assessment, advice, and direction. GLIDE has developed an organization that provides any business, or potential business, with the resources and tools needed to navigate toward commercial success. Whether it is an aerial bucket manufacturer or a company developing a surgical imaging device, GLIDE supports the efforts of entrepreneurs and businesses in Northern Ohio to develop jobs that ensure the economic growth for the next generation.
