Vehicle Break-Ins on Campus During the past month, the Campus Security Office has received three reports of vehicle break-ins where windows were smashed and various items were stolen. The parking lots targeted were Lots 3 South, 6 North and 7 North. Campus Security officers will be conducting increased mobile patrols but we need your help. Please contact Campus Security immediately at (440) 366-4053 or (440) 366-4444 if you witness any suspicious vehicles or activity in the parking. Campus Security officials would also like to remind campus community members to:
- Never leave valuables or other items (book bags, purses, books, GPS devices, IPods, etc.) in plain sight
- Store electronic devices in your locked glove compartment or take them with you
- Remove mounting devices for GPS units from windshields and place them in your locked glove compartment
- Engrave/mark your personal property with your driver’s license number or something similar to facilitate identification if it’s recovered during an investigation
- Contact Campus Security immediately if you see something suspicious or know something

Global Entrepreneurship Week
Lorain County Community College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) and the Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise (GLIDE) are bringing Global Entrepreneurship Week – Nov. 16-22 – to the LCCC campus with a variety of events to inspire innovation.

LCCC Alerts Emergency Notification System All students are encouraged to register for LCCC’s emergency alert text notification system. This messaging system will help LCCC keep students informed in the event of any campus emergency including campus closings, campus power outages and severe weather announcements. H1N1 Information and Updates In an ongoing effort to share updated information on H1N1 with the campus community, the Campus Security office will include information on the LCCC website, in FYI each week and in the student e-newsletter. Reminders on what to do to limit chances of becoming ill are posted in these locations as well as throughout campus. Additionally, the Lorain County Health Department has a very informative website that includes an FAQ regarding H1N1 vaccinations, a listing of flu shot clinics throughout our community and general updates as well as those more local in nature. Scholarship and Community Service Opportunity for Students Students searching for scholarship funds for college classes and those who wish to build their resume are encouraged to apply for the Midwest Campus Compact Citizen-Scholar (M3C) Fellowship Program. The M3C Fellows Program integrates education with civic engagement among campuses across the county. Students who are involved in this Americorps Education Award Program will receive an education award of up to $1,000 to use toward tuition, loan payments and other college related expenses in return for completing 300 hours of community service. Honors Program Provides the Challenge You’re Looking For Are you looking for more challenge from your course work? Motivated students with superior reading, writing and analytical skills may consider joining the Honors Program at LCCC. With two different program tracks, the Honors Program caters to those looking for a full schedule of excelled courses or those who wish to take one or two honors classes in select subjects. Reverse Raffle Event for LCCC Employee The Northern Ohio Officials Association will host a reverse raffle benefit for Matt Kendeigh, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Student Life (HPERSL) division, at 5 p.m., Saturday, November 14 at Bob-O-Link golf course in Avon. Matt is a personal trainer and student here on campus and is an avid lover of sports, both actively playing as well as officiating. While participating in a volleyball event, he experienced an accident that resulted in a fractured cheek bone that required facial reconstructive surgery. SIFE Entrepreneurship Information Session Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host Setting Up to Settling Down, an information session for entrepreneurs from 5-6:30 p.m., Monday, November 16, during Global Entrepreneurship Week at LCCC. Panel members will give tips on bookkeeping, payroll and price setting. Information on how to approach retirement will also be discussed. Seating is limited. Penton Memorial 10K Turkey Trot The Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Student Life (HPERSL) division will host the 41st Annual Penton Memorial 10K Turkey Trot at 9 a.m., Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26 on the LCCC cross country course. This cross country race is open to the public and is held each year in honor of the late Bill Penton, an avid supporter of the running community in Lorain County. Sacred Landmarks Russian New Year Fundraising Event The Friends of the Sacred Landmarks Initiative invites the campus community to a fundraiser celebrating the Russian New Year from 6-10 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, located at 2711 West 40th Street in Lorain. Guests will be welcomed into a winter wonderland filled with Russian themed food, musicians, singers, and other entertainment. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and the arrival of the Russian New Year will be toasted at 10 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their own alcoholic beverages. All are welcome to take part in the Divine Liturgy at 5 p.m. in the church. Tours of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church will be conducted throughout the evening. Tickets are $40 per person and $75 per couple. Group rates are also available. Proceeds will help fund a Lorain County stained glass publication.
