The 2009-2010 Student Senate

Cherie Shanko, President

Cherie Shanko is a Psychology Major at Lorain County Community College.  She served as the Event Coordinator for the 2008-2009 Student Senate.

Cherie is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).  Aside from Student Senate and PTK, she is an active member in the community.

Cherie graduated from Black River High School in 2008.

Cherie’s goal is to earn her Master's degree in Psychology from Ohio State University.  She hopes to travel around the world and live every moment to its fullest.

Cherie, why did you want to become a Student Senator?
I want to improve the connection between faculty and students, and to give students more opportunities to make the most of their college years.”


Sean Delaney-Gesing, Vice President

Sean Delaney-Gesing is a Public Relations Major at Lorain County Community College.

Sean worked as a neighborhood team leader in 2008 on the Obama presidential campaign.

Sean graduated from Bay High School in 2008.

Sean's goal is to graduate from LCCC with an Associate's degree and pursue a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations with a minor in Political Science from Ohio University.  He also wants to work the 2012 Presidential Campaign season on the advance team.  He would like to join the U.S. Air Force as an officer while pursuing a Master's degree from Embry Riddel Aeronautical University.

Sean, why did you want to become a Student Senator?
“Because the student’s opinions will determine how this college will move forward in the year to come.”


Andrea Engle, Event Coordinator

Andrea Engle is a Communications Major at Lorain County Community College.

Andrea is currently the features editor for the Collegian Newspaper and the President of Society of Professional Journalist, Student Chapter.  She also played for the LCCC Women's Club Basketball team.

Andrea's goal is to graduate with her Bachelor's degree in Communication and continue on for her Master's degree in Journalism.

Andrea, why did you want to become a Student Senator?
“I believe that I can make the campus a better place for students.  I enjoy taking everyone’s opinions and putting them together to find the perfect solution for whatever we are planning.”


Trang Nguyen, Financial Secretary

Trang Nguyen is a Civil Engineer Major at Lorain County Community College.  She is an international student from Vietnam.

Trang has prior leadership skills and is very committed to accuracy and keeping good records.  She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Multicultural Club.  She loves to volunteer and serve the community.

Trang graduated from Elyria High School in 2008 as number thirteen (13) of her graduating class.

Trang's goal is to graduate with her PhD. in Engineering Management. She hopes to return to her home in Vietnam and give back to her country.

Trang, why did you want to become a Student Senator?
“This position will offer a very good opportunity for me to express, improve myself and communicate with all students on the campus better.”


Robin Hodges, Executive Secretary

Robin Hodges is a Spanish Major at Lorain County Community College.

Robin was a member of National Honor Society, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and HUDDLE (Helping US Develop Dedication, Leadership and Enthusiasm).  She was a staff member for the Ohio Association of Student Councils and served as class treasurer and class vice president.

Robin graduated from Black River High School in 2008.

Robin's goal is to graduate with her Master's degree in Spanish, travel to different foreign countries and live a life that will make her family proud.

Robin, why did you want to become a Student Senator?
"I want to help students become more involved in all campus events and functions."
