Technical Requirements for Viewing Videos in ANGEL

If your instructor is using links in ANGEL to LCCC video-streamed lectures or course information, it is important to determine the software you will need to view the videos.

LCCC has some videos that require Windows Media Player (blue background) and/or Silverlight (white background).  Please follow the directions that refer to the type of video you are viewing.

Videos with a blue background require Windows Media Player.

Videos with a white background require Silverlight by Microsoft.

About Windows Media Player Videos (blue background):

  • Browsers:  IE 7, 8 or 9 (these videos do not play on a Mac)
  • Need Windows Media Player 10 or Higher
  • Disable Pop-up Blockers. Be sure to also check your computer security system for pop-up blockers
  • Windows Media Player may need to be set as the default on your computer for audio files.
  • “Do you want to display the nonsecure items?”:  IE7 – answer is “Yes” and in IE8 or IE9 the answer is “No”

To keep the box from displaying every time you click on the link to a video, you can change your settings to the following:

  • Tools
  • Internet Options
  • Security Tab
  • Internet Zone
  • Custom Level
  • Display Mixed Content (about half way down)
  • Select "Enable"

When viewing the videos in Internet Explorer 7.0, please make sure that you click "Yes" if you are asked if you want to view secure items.  If you do not click Yes, then the video will not display.  If you mistakenly click "No", then you must go out of the course and come back in and click "Yes" when asked.

If you are using Internet Explorer 8 or 9, the answer is "No" when asked.  If you do not click "No, then the video will not display.  If you mistakenly clicked "Yes, then you must go out of the course and come back in and click "No".

If you answer the question incorrectly, a box may pop up that says, "Navigation to the Page was Cancelled."

About Silverlight Videos (white background):

  • Browsers:  IE7. 8 or 9 or Firefox for PC and Mozilla for Mac (these videos play on a PC or a Mac)
  • Must download Silverlight
  • Students running Windows 7 should have IE 8 or 9.  IE7 appears to cause problems with the videos.
  • “Do you want to display the nonsecure items?”:  IE7 – answer is “Yes” and in IE8 and IE9 the answer is “No” (see picture above).

To keep the box from displaying every time you click on the link to a video, you can change your settings to the following:
