The Biology 152 (Human Biology) course is designed to introduce non-science majors to the workings of the human body. No previous science experience is necessary! This course is not intended to make you experts in the field of anatomy and physiology, but instead is designed to make you educated consumers of health care. During this course, you will be exposed not only to the normal functioning of the body systems but also to the effects that diseases can have on organ function and methods of preventing the onset or expediting a treatment of disease.
This course has both lecture and lab components, both of which are presented to you on-line. The lecture material is in the form of "lessons" and these lessons will be the primary source of information for the lecture exams. The lecture textbook will provide you with supplemental information that may help you with the learning process. The laboratory sessions will allow you to view images of models and specimens that are used in the on-campus laboratory. There are also some experiments that you will be asked to do using items that you have laying around your house. Guidance for the labs will be provided by your lab book which can be purchased from the LCCC Bookstore.
There are a large number of tests for this course. This is by design and should help you to budget your time wisely. The tests will only be available for a few days so you will need to log on regularly (at a minimum, every other day) and keep up with the material. The scheduling of the quizzes and exams is designed to help you complete the course material in a timely manner.
A portion of your grade will include participation in class discussion questions. Each of you will be expected to participate in and offer your input on each of the discussion questions. This can be done at a time convenient for your schedule, but must occur within 5 days of the original posting since this is a “discussion.”
