Summer 2012

These programs were specifically developed to help unemployed adults quickly obtain the skills training needed in order to find new or replacement employment. All programs require a high school diploma or GED prior to enrollment.

Funding is available to those who qualify.


Customer Service for Professionals

  • 8-Week Program (Full-Time)
  • Program Cost: $3,500
  • Program start/end dates: June 11 — August, 2, 2012
  • Times: 9 am-3 pm, Monday-Friday

Customer service positions are found in many areas of business including manufacturing, banking, retail stores, travel and tourism, and hospitals. The Customer Service short term training program will pro-vide participants with the knowledge and skills needed in order to provide excellent service to internal and external customers.

The dynamics learned in this program include:

  • Computer Applications: Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, internet, presentation and graphics.
     
  • Communications: Learn the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to become an effective communicator in small groups as well as public speaking. Special topics include self-concept, perception, language, listening, developing relationships, conflict negotiations, group dynamics and leadership skills.
     
  • Project Management: Project quality, scope, time, cost, human re-source, communications, risk, procurement, and integration management, as defined by the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). Students will use various tools, including software, to manage different levels of projects through their life cycle for various organizational structures and stake-holders. This course satisfies the requirements for an individual to sit for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®. (Special fee will be assessed.)
     
  • Customer Service for Professional Staff: Learn proven techniques to strengthen customer satisfaction and loyalty.
     
  • Job Search Strategies: Core employment search topics such as job search and networking, resume writing and cover letters, interviewing and techniques for using social networking in your job search.

NOTE: Upon successful completion of this course, 10 credits will be awarded. Courses lead to the Business Administration Associates Degree program @ LCCC for individuals who wish to further their education and increase the number and scope of job opportunities avail-able to them. Cost includes: training, books and costs related to certification fees.


Project Management

  • 8-Week Program (Part-Time)
  • Program Cost: $1,250
  • Program start/end dates: June 11, 2012 — August, 2, 2012
  • Times: 9 am-12:30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday

Project management skills are required for many entry level and professional positions within various industries. This program will introduce participants to the fundamental concepts, terminology and processes of effective project management.

The dynamics learned in this program include:

  • Project quality, scope, time, cost, human resource, communications, risk, procurement, and integration management, as defined by the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). Students will use various tools, including software, to manage different levels of projects through their life cycle for various organizational structures and stakeholders. This course satisfies the requirements for an individual to sit for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®. (Special fee will be assessed.)
     
  • Job Search Strategies: Core employment search topics such as job search and networking, resume writing and cover letters, interviewing and techniques for using social networking in your job search.

State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

  • 5-Week Program (Full-Time)
  • Program Cost: $1,140
  • Program start/end dates: Various June/July start dates.

The State Tested Nursing Assistant program trains individuals to work in a medical environment providing basic nursing care such as dressing, feeding, bathing and observing patients. Other skills may be required depending on the employer. STNA’s are generally employed in long-term care facilities, but also at hospitals, assisted living, hospice care, home health care and private duty.

NOTE: Upon successful completion of this course 5 credits will be awarded towards the LPN program @ LCCC for individuals who wish to further their education and increase the number and scope of job opportunities available to them. Cost includes: tuition, books, lab fees, state exam fees and one uniform in white. This program has special health screening requires prior to enrollment. (Call for details)


Information Technology

  • 9-Month Program-IT Fast Track Certification Level 1 (Full-Time)
  • Times: 8 am-5 pm Monday– Friday
  • Program Cost: $7,500
  • Program start/end dates: August 27, 2012—June 1, 2013

Train to become an IT Support Specialist, Network Technician or Help Desk Representative. Computer support specialists provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers and other users. They also troubleshoot, interpret problems and provide technical support for hard-ware, software, and systems. These professionals answer telephone calls, analyze problems by using automated diagnostic programs, and resolve recurring concerns.

  • Program includes:  Certification training in A+, Network+ and Microsoft MCTS in Server 2008
     
  • Job Search Strategies: Core employment search topics such as job search and networking, resume writing and cover letters, interviewing and techniques for using social networking in your job search.
