Associate Transmission System Operators (20 positions)

Summary of Positions

A Transmission System Operator ensures the reliable delivery of electricity to consumers.  From the company’s state-of-the-art control centers located in Fairlawn, OH and Fairmont, WV, system operators monitor conditions on the electrical grid and develop contingency plans to mitigate potentially dangerous and costly system problems.  In the event of an electric system disturbance or failure, system operators must act quickly to restore service in a safe and orderly manner.   System operators prepare and coordinate switching procedures for routine and emergency work on the electric system and communicate this information directly to field crews via radio.

Qualifications for this position

  • A minimum of 2-4 years of an accredited engineering or technical school degree or in lieu of degree, equivalent experience (e.g. switching, constructing or maintaining transmission, distribution, substation or generation facilities, Navy Nuclear Power School, etc.) with a high school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Must be able to obtain NERC/PJM certification. 
  • Effective performance in regional dispatching, substation or lines areas, energy scheduling or equivalent type of experience in electric company operations beneficial. 
  • Knowledge of the equipment and principles involved in the operation of all components of the electrical system beneficial. 
  • Ability to accurately perform analytical calculations such as voltage drops, transformer and circuit loadings, system load and interchange data calculations and verifications. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, good analytical skills to process information in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Effective and clear verbal communication skills for radio communications, as well as effective written communication skills. 
  • Ability to handle stress and react in a calm and decisive manner in multi-tasking situations. 
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Ability to pass a System Operator/Power Dispatching aptitude test. 
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule
