Marcia Jones, M. Ed.

Work-Based Learning Coordinator

BACKGROUND

  • Coordinator of Work-Based Learning (Internships and Co-ops) since 2002.
  • Project Director for development of LCCC’s Service Learning program.
  • Spearheading the development of student Entrepreneurship Experiential Learning opportunities in connection with the Lorain County Community College Foundation.
  • Twenty years of professional experience working in public, private and non-profit arenas. 
  • Instrumental in the development and implementation of Lorain County’s one-stop employment services through the Employment netWork. 
  • Managed community-based employment programs for adults with disabilities, served as consultant on a state-wide initiative to expand efforts to fully integrate people with disabilities into the work-place.

EDUCATION

  • Masters in Education and Rehabilitation Counseling through Kent State University.
  • Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Social Work and Sociology. 

PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT

Vice President of the Ohio 2-Year College Career Services Association, member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Ohio Cooperative Education Association, National Community College Entrepreneurship Association, College Tech Prep Consortium Steering Committee.  President of the Board of Gathering Hope House.

 

Phil Mikita, M.B.A.

Job Developer

BACKGROUND

  • Works with local companies to place LCCC students in full and part-time positions.
  • Also assists with the placement of students seeking internships and work-based learning experiences.
  • Serves as a member of the Entrepreneurship, Innovation Institute sales team - focused on delivering business services to local customers.
  • Diverse business background spanning more than 30 years which includes:  management, consulting, sales and marketing. 
  • Entrepreneurship experience: Consulted with many organizations including the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce and Drake Beam Morin (DBM), assisting employers with career transition and outplacement services.
  • Member of Adjunct Faculty at LCCC and Member of Faculty at University of Phoenix teaching Management courses.

EDUCATION

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Cleveland State University.
  • Undergraduate degree from Mount Union College.

Cynthia A. McCabe, M.B.A., CDF

Job Placement Coordinator

BACKGROUND

  • Broad business experience in outplacement, human resources, consulting, and training and development.
  • Master Career Development Professional and a Registered Corporate Coach.
  • Served as Managing Consultant for DBM, a worldwide outplacement organization.
  • Designed, developed, and delivered a variety of workplace initiatives for Fortune 500 companies, non-profit institutions, and government agencies.
  • Presented at conferences, nationally and internationally, on a variety of workplace issues.
  • Adjunct faculty member at Tiffin University and LCCC.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications 
  • MBA from Cleveland State University
  • Extensive postgraduate work in Human Resources and Labor Relations.

PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT

Past International President of the Employee Involvement Association [Founders’ Award]; Past State President of the Ohio Federation of Business and Professional Women; Named “Woman of Professional Excellence” by the Cleveland YWCA; Vice President of the Northeast Ohio Human Resource Planning Society; Member of the Board of Junior Achievement of Lorain County.

 

Erin Corwin, M.S.

Career Development Specialist

BACKGROUND

  • Over eight years’ experience delivering career development, career decision, and co-op services in community college, state university, and liberal arts college settings.
  • Developed special programming with sensitivity to the retention and career issues of diverse populations and adult learners.
  • Experienced with a range of assessment tools useful for career decision-making and career development efforts.
  • Created an array of technology resources to expand and improve the reach of career development services and to enhance data collection and distribution.
  • Managed large career events and coordinated a broad base of employer relationships.
  • Worked closely with businesses to enhance placement efforts and ensure successful career fairs, on-campus recruiting efforts, and job development.

EDUCATION

  • Master of Science in Counseling, and Community and Agency Counseling, University of Arkansas.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, University of Toledo.

Maureen D. Hess, M.Ed., LSW

Career Development Specialist

BACKGROUND

  • Over fifteen years experience in career development work in four different environments (last eleven with LCCC’s Employment and Career Services).  This included Career Counseling for Opening Doors, a national research project on how to help “first-generation” college students succeed.
  • Coordinated the original development and unique design of LCCC’s Work-Based Learning [co-op] program.
  • Over twenty years’ prior professional experience with both business and non-profit organizations that included: management, communications, program development, recruitment and training, marketing and writing.
  • Collaborated in the development of ABLE, an assessment instrument for life planning used by career services in area libraries.
  • Designed and delivers the popular Career Decision Boot Camp in collaboration with LCCC’s Counseling Department.

EDUCATION

  • Master’s Degree in Adult Learning and Development, with an emphasis on Career Development, from Cleveland State.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Human Services, with an emphasis in Organizational Development, from Baldwin-Wallace.
  • Licensed Social Worker since 1991.

PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT

Past President of the Ohio Association of Job Search Training, served on the Boards of the Ohio Career Development Association, the Ohio Cooperative Education Association, and the North Coast Career Association. Member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.  Presented programs on career issues at the American Counseling Association National Conference and the Ohio Cooperative Education Association Annual Meeting. 

 

Linda Telzrow, M.S., LPC, LSW, CRC

Innovation Fund Experiential & Work-Based Learning Specialist

BACKGROUND

  • Over fifteen years career development experience including career counseling, job search training, and job coaching.
  • Considerable experience with testing, assessment and interpretation of a broad range of career development instruments.
  • Experienced job developer - frequently interacted with employers for job development and internship placement.
  • Developed and delivered workshops and resources on job search issues and labor market information.
  • Familiar with area support agencies and governmental and private funding sources.
  • Has served myriad populations ranging in age from 17 to 77, with special experience with disabled and displaced workers.

EDUCATION

  • M.S., Counseling, Ashland University.
  • B.A. English Education, Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT
