Our Charge

The Center is a community of educators serving as catalysts and resources for professional growth and innovative teaching to enhance student learning and achievement.

Our Commitment

We seek opportunities to identify and import best practices and innovative strategies of curriculum design, teaching and assessment. Faculty come together to discuss these findings and topics which speak to their abilities to deliver quality education to a diverse population of students. We are committed to infusing Lorain County Community College with enthusiasm and passion for excellent teaching.

Our Community

Defining ourselves by our faculty and students, by the boundaries of the campus or by the limits of Lorain County ignores the reality of the present and the potential for the future. We are a community embedded within and enhanced by other educators. We are also embedded in the lives of those we serve. Geographic limits are meaningless, as we reach far to fulfill our mission of excellent teaching for our students. Ultimately, we belong to a community of learners, too.

Our Course

Our journey began with small communities within LCCC. These Learning Communities, sponsored and financially supported by the Ohio Learning Network (OLN), have enabled us to reach out to other communities of learners and teachers. Our journey is one of promise-promise for both this community of educators and for the larger community of learners to which we belong. Courses remolded, either through the Course Redesign process, Quality Assurance Course Design process or through the Innovative Project process, offer creative and agile ways to improve both the delivery of and the quality of our teaching. One proposed approach to structure, design, delivery and utility of courses opens new vistas in the way we think about bringing courses, professors and students together. All three processes rest on the foundations of previous research and will entail new research.

We move forward with LCCC and with our learning-community kindred elsewhere. Our pathway through Vision 2.0 and the New Decade Challenge provides new opportunities for our faculty and our students. Our journey bears new fruit in the present and allows us to plant seeds for the future.
