LCCC Curriculum Council
Follow the steps outlined below for complete information about the Curriculum Council process. The highlighted areas will link you to examples or other helpful materials.
- Determine if any of your changes can be fast tracked.
Qualifying changes include: Very minor changes to the Catalog Description (comma or ‘and’), Seat Changes, Fee Changes, Textbook Change, Topical Outline, Course Outcomes & Assessment, Instructional Methods & Techniques, Grading Procedures, Resources (e.g. Equipment & Software).

- Cover letter (34 copies, collated, stapled, and three-hole punched double sided)
a. Work through the process with your division director so that he/ she is aware
of the requested changes and the reasons for those changes.
b. Ask your director to compose a cover letter for the council that outlines the
changes, the reasons for the changes, and any research supporting those changes.
- Library Form (1 copy)
a. Determine your needs, and work with the library personnel to complete the form.
- Quality Point Checklist (1 copy)
a. This form is truly a checklist to be sure that you’ve completed all of the necessary parts of the process.
b. You will place an x in the box to the left of each item you’ve completed.
c. Fees and seats will be changed and noted on this form.
d. A Descriptive Quality Checklist is available to help you determine credits, etc.
- Course Description with Student Outcomes (34 copies, collated, stapled, and three-hole punched/double sided)
a. Be sure that you’re always using the most up to date CDSO form.
b. Consult the CDSO examples for the correct way to complete the form.
c. For additional assistance in writing outcomes, consult one of the various guides.
d. Contact the Curriculum Council chair or your divisional rep with questions.
- New and Revised Course Proposal (1 copy)
a. Not all aspects of this form will apply to all courses.
b. Be sure to ask for divisional approval for your changes in a division meeting.
c. Seek support from the division(s) you support or support you.
- Bringing a Proposal to the CC meeting
a. Make 34 copies (three-hole punched/double-sided) of the CDSO and the cover letter (one copy of the other forms).
b. Please include all divisional requests together in one packet with one cover letter.
c. Deliver all forms to the Project Manager for the Provost of Academic and Learner Services by the CC Materials due date.
- Come to the Curriculum Council meeting prepared for a lively academic debate about your courses!
- Approved Course
a. If your course is approved, email the revised (clean version – no cross-outs/underlines) CDSO to Project Manager for the Provost of Academic and Learner Services promptly after the meeting.
