Employee Fitness Classes

LiveSmartEmployee-Only Fitness Classes

Fall 2010

As a full- or part-time LCCC employee, retiree, or spouse, you can register now through Friday September 3, 2010 for the LiveSmart fitness classes, co-sponsored by the LiveSmart Program and the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Division.  You will not need to use fee waivers for these classes, nor will you have to pay for them, as they are being subsidized through the LiveSmart Program.

The classes will run for 13 weeks (off Thurs. & Fri. for Thanksgiving Break) from Tuesday. September 7th – Friday December 3, 2010.  You may enroll in more than one fitness class, but please enroll only for those classes you can commit to attending regularly.  Once the participant limit for a fitness course has been reached, the class will no longer be displayed on the registration page.

Don’t Forget:

  • To bring bottled water and a towel for all classes 
  • To bring your LCCC ID* to show the student worker prior to each class, so that you can gain access to the track, locker room, and/or gym.

*Spouses must also present an LCCC ID card.  ID cards can be obtained in the Barbara and Mike Bass Library/Community Resource Center.

SMALL GROUP PERSONAL TRAINING (limited to 4 participants/class)
This course focuses on those individuals, who have had prior experience with resistance training, but who want to add some pizzazz and motivation to their work-outs.  Participants will utilize a variety of resistance tools, free weights, and circuit machines.
 
Small Group Personal Training

FITNESS CENTER 101 (limited to 4 participants/class) 
Have you wanted to start a work-out program but were afraid of the cost or not sure how to use the fitness machines?  Access to the fitness center is available to all LCCC part- and full-time employees at no cost and this course will focus on how to use the fitness machines, circuits, free weights, and other resistance tools to either begin, vary, or amp up your work-outs.

TONING ON THE TRACK
This class uses resistance tools along with calisthenics to help firm, sculpt, and tone the body while utilizing the walking track.

TREAD & SHED  (limited to 4 participants/class)
This class consists of interval drills alternating treadmill walking or running with callisthenic exercises to help speed up the metabolism to shed body fat.

NUTRITION CLASS “WHAT SHOULD I EAT?”
You will be guided through the mypyramid.gov website so you can learn how to calculate the amount of calories and nutrients you should be consuming on a daily basis. The class will be held in the LC building so each participant will be hands on with the website during class. Also, current and relevant topics will be discussed to help you make sense of all the nutrition information you are exposed to.

T-BOW
This fitness class utilizes the versatile T-BOW to effectively train the cardio-respiratory system, as well as increase balance, coordination, strength and flexibility.  The T-BOW can be adjusted to modify exercises for all levels of fitness.

PILATES/YOGA FUSION
This class mixes both Pilates and Yoga to incorporate a non-impact exercise routine that is designed to stretch and strengthen the trunk muscles, improve posture and align the body through proper biomechanics.  In addition, one will create balance in all aspects of life through the use of physical and mental Yoga.

TAI CHI
A Chinese system of slow meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation, balance, and health.

ZUMBA
Zumba is an aerobic workout that blends Latin and International music, using dance moves that create a dynamic and energetic fitness class.  This course utilizes the principles of fitness through interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output.  The easy to follow routines combine fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the entire body.

WALKING FOR WEIGHT LOSS
This low-impact program is an essential and sensible way of keeping fit while training in your fat burning zone.  Pedometers and resistance bands will be incorporated into some of the workouts.

MEDITATION 
Refine, tone, define, soothe and ultimately create balance in all aspects of life through the use of physical and mental Yoga and meditation techniques.

LIVESMART WALKING: COMPETITIVE TEAM (limited to 20 participants/team)
This program is designed for employees who are already physically active and desire to be part of a walking team that shares their enthusiasm for exercise and competition. Teams will use the Lorain County Walks website as well as a step conversion chart to enter their steps/activities.  They will also be coached by a Lorain County Community College personal trainer who will provide them with motivation and resources to enhance their participation. Since there is no formal meeting time, this is an ideal walking/exercise program for those employees that can never fit a LiveSmart fitness class into their schedule or prefer to exercise on their own time. When registering, please be aware that each coach’s team (s) is listed separately.  This allows you the capability to sign up for the coach/team of your choice.

LIVESMART WALKING: HEALTH ENHANCEMENT TEAM (limited to 20 participants/team) 
This program is designed for employees who desire to be part of a walking team with others who are just beginning to incorporate exercise into their lives or do not wish to be part of a competition.  Teams will use the Lorain County Walks website as well as a step conversion chart to enter their steps/activities.  They will also be coached by a Lorain County Community College personal trainer who will provide them with motivation and resources to enhance their participation. Since there is no formal meeting time, this is an ideal walking/exercise program for those employees that can never fit a LiveSmart fitness class into their schedule or prefer to exercise on their own time. When registering, please be aware that each coach’s team (s) is listed separately.  This allows you the capability to sign up for the coach/team of your choice.
