LCCC Scholarships and Incentive Awards

Choose Ohio First Scholarship
LCCC will offer approximately 40 full-and partial-tuition, renewable scholarships beginning fall 2008 to LCCC and University Partnership students pursuing majors in one of many identified programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as part of the state of Ohio's Choose Ohio First scholarship program. University Partnership Empowerment Award
The University Partnership Empowerment Award (UPEA) is a privately funded award intended to help University Partnership students achieve a college education and training on LCCC's campus with a University Partner. The UPEA is intended to provide financial assistance to students in need empowering their pursuit of higher education. All University Partnership students with need are invited to apply!

University Partnership Academic Scholarship Program
The Lorain County Community College Foundation, through the generous support of private donations, has made scholarship dollars available to University Partnership students. The intent of the University Partnership Scholarship Program (UPSP) is to reward academic excellence thereby enabling more students to further their educational pursuits through the University Partnership. Scholarship awards vary based on the academic excellence, hours enrolled and unusual circumstances documented on the application.

American Legion Post 12 Scholarship
Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of THE AMERICAN LEGION POST #12 SCHOLARSHIP for Spring Semester sponsored by the American Legion (Post #12) in Elyria, Ohio. This award is intended to reward individuals who are either 1) an honorably discharged United States veteran, or 2) the descendant of an honorably discharged United States veteran and who meet other criteria.

Trustee Scholarship
Criteria: New Lorain County high school graduates who earn a minimum 3.7 high school GPA or better at the end of the sixth semester high school grading period will be eligible for this scholarship, which covers 60-72 credit hours of tuition over two consecutive years. The recipient can use 30-36 credit hours each year at the maximum rate of 15-18 credit hours per semester. Recipients must earn a minimum 2.5 LCCC cumulative GPA each semester to maintain scholarship eligibility. No application is required for students attending a Lorain County high school.

Presidential Scholarship
Criteria: New Lorain County high school graduates who earn between a 3.4 and 3.699 high school GPA by the end of the sixth semester high school grading period will be eligible for this scholarship, which covers 40 credit hours of tuition over two consecutive years. The recipient can use 10 credit hours per semester. Recipients must earn a minimum 2.5 LCCC cumulative GPA each semester to maintain scholarship eligibility. No application is required for students attending a Lorain County high school.

Diversity Incentive Award
Criteria: New Lorain County high school graduates who earn a minimum 2.5 high school GPA by the end of the sixth semester high school grading period and are of African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Island, Middle Eastern, Indian or Native American descent will be eligible for this award, which is available for three years or 72 credit hours. Each recipient must enroll at LCCC on a full-time basis and work a job either on or off campus. A mentoring program has been established to assist students with adjusting to the college experience. Recipients must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater each semester to maintain award eligibility. No application is required for students attending a Lorain County high school.

Bernell G. Helm Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Applicants must be New Elyria High School graduates planning to enroll at LCCC full-time in the fall term and have a seventh semester cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 3.39. Applicants need to submit a special application, which can be obtained from the Elyria High Guidance Office or LCCC Financial Aid Office and a 250-500 word essay to the EHS guidance office. Recipients of this scholarship are selected based upon high school cumulative GPA, school activities, essay and community service.

Betterway Foundation Scholarship
This award is sponsored by the Betterway Foundation/Tom Meehan Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Lorain County Community College Betterway Foundation Scholarship is a privately funded award intended to help individuals who demonstrate some promise for learning and possess one or more of the following characteristics: troubled background, involved with the justice system, involved with Alcoholics Anonymous or similar organizations which offer self-help programs.

Bill Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund in Law Enforcement
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of THE BILL BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. This scholarship seeks to recognize students who are enrolled in the Police Academy at Lorain County Community College and may be used for expenses associated with successfully completing the Police Academy Program. The recipient must demonstrate an unmet financial need after grant/other awards and who meets other criteria.

LCCC College Tech Prep Award
Criteria: Lorain County high school students who complete the high school portion of the Tech Prep pathway and have earned a minimum GPA of 2.75 by the end of their seventh semester high school grading period may be selected for this award. The maximum annual award, based on full time enrollment varies but can be valued up to the cost of full tuition. Recipients will receive the award for two academic years contingent upon maintaining award eligibility criteria. Two letters of recommendation are required along with completion of the special application.

Elyria Rotary Club/Invacare Incentive Award For Students with Special Needs
Amount: Varies according to need
Criteria: Self-identifying students with documented disabilities may request special last dollar grant assistance. Students must enroll for a minimum of six credit hours and be registered with LCCC's Office of Special Needs.

Ford/EEOC Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicants should be a minority or woman who is employed by Ford, or a spouse or offspring of a Ford employee. They should be enrolled as a full-time student, submit the scholarship application and essay. Recipients of this scholarship will show academic promise on their high school and college transcripts and maintain at least a 2.0 LCCC GPA to maintain scholarship eligibility. Scholarship is renewable but must be applied for yearly.

Andy Fredericks Memorial Fire Science Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-2009 Academic Year to a student seeking a two year degree in Fire Science at Lorain County Community College.  The scholarship will be disbursed at the rate of $500 for Fall Semester and $500 for Spring Semester.  The money will be disbursed by the Sonora Area Foundation (SAF) to Lorain County Community College.

James A Gamellia Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund
The James A. Gamellia Sr. Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student at Lorain County Community College enrolled in an Allied Health Career program. The James A. Gamellia Sr. Memorial Scholarship may be used for payment of tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Application preference will be given to those students who currently or have previously worked in a long term care facility while enrolled in an Allied Health Career program.

GEN RN Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of THE GEN RN MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP. The Scholarship will be awarded to a needing and deserving student attending Lorain County Community College pursuing a nursing degree. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. The recipient must demonstrate unmet need after grants and other awards.

Hubert F. Gough Nursing Books and Fees Scholarship
Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of the Hubert F. Gough Nursing Books and Fees Scholarship for Academic Year 2009-10. This award is intended to support books and course fees for part-time or full-time nursing majors attending Lorain County Community College.
To apply for this award, complete the application by July 15, 2009

Great Lakes Organized Labor Management Council and Lorain County Labor Agency Scholarship
The Great Lakes Organized Labor Management Council (GLOLMC) and the Lorain County Labor Agency (LCLA) established a scholarship fund with the Lorain County Community College Foundation to assist eligible students in continuing their education. The scholarship may be used for degree or certificate seeking students; students in need of upgrading skills in order to remain employable; or to take advantage of career advancement opportunities.

Incentive Award for Non-Traditional Students
Criteria: Recipients must be enrolled on at least a half time basis in a program leading to a degree or certificate, and be independent students or dependent single parents. The award will be granted on the basis of last dollar/need-based support. A mentoring program has been established to assist students with adjusting to the college experience. Recipients must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.5 each semester to maintain award eligibility. Deadline: 30 days prior to the start of the semester in which the students plans to attend.

Police Academy Incentive Award for Non-Traditional Students (IANS)
The Police Academy Incentive Award for Non-Traditional Students (IANS) is a privately funded award intended to help non-traditional students achieve a college education and training through the Lorain County Community College Police Academy.  You may be a non-traditional student 1) if you are not dependent on your parents for support, 2) if you support your own child; 3) if you are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces; or 4) if you are over 24 years of age.  Other qualifications are defined by the Federal government on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  A copy of these guidelines is available in the Financial Services Center.

LCCC ABLE/GED Scholarship
The purpose of the LCCC ABLE/GED Scholarship is to encourage GED recipients who participate in Lorain County’s ABLE programs to continue their education by enrolling at Lorain County Community College soon after successfully passing the GED test.

LCCC Accounting Scholarship
This award is intended to support part-time or full-time accounting majors attending Lorain County Community College with their tuition, fees and books.

LCCC Community Service Recognition Award
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of THE LCCC COMMUNITY SERVICE RECOGNITION AWARD. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student attending Lorain County Community College or its University Partnership. This award is intended to reward a Lorain County resident that has demonstrated personal involvement in community service activities and who meets other required criteria.

LCCC International and Study Abroad Scholarship
The Lorain County Community College International and Study Abroad Scholarship is a privately funded award intended to help individuals interested in public diplomacy, foreign language development, cultural enrichment and international understanding. Scholarships will be awarded to students participating in an approved LCCC Study Abroad Program or to international students from the college’s overseas partner institutions attending LCCC for the first time. Scholarships will be applied to the student’s cost of education and will be paid directly to the higher educational institution the student is attending. The scholarship can be used to help pay for tuition, books, and other educational expenses. Scholarships will have a minimum value of $1,000 per academic year and are not renewable.

LCCC Physical Therapist Assistant Scholarship
This award is intended to support any LCCC Physical Therapist Assistant student who meets the following criteria:

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Enrolled at least half time at LCCC or the University Partnership (minimum six credit hours);
  • Has been accepted into the Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees and/or books

LCCC Veterans Scholarship
The LCCC Veterans Scholarship is a privately funded award intended to help veterans achieve a college education and training.  The amount of the award varies per student and it can be used to help pay for tuition, books, and other educational expenses including child care and transportation.  The LCCC Veterans Scholarship is a need-based award and completion of the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for consideration. 

Hal Lebovitz Memorial Scholarship
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of THE HAL LEBOVITZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a deserving student attending Lorain County Community College. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the required criteria and is pursuing an educational program that will support a career in the writing field.

Laura M. O'Neill Memorial Scholarship
The Laura M. O’Neill Memorial Scholarship is valued at a minimum of $500 for the year disbursed during the Fall Semester.  Scholarship criteria and eligibility are as follows:

  • Must be enrolled in the second year of an Associate Degree or transfer program at LCCC;
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average;
  • Recipient may only receive the scholarship once;
  • Scholarship will be disbursed in Fall Semester and may be applied to tuition and fees only;
  • Recipient will be selected by the family of Laura M. O’Neill;
  • Recipient’s participation in community service will be an integral factor in the selection process.

The Alvin A. and Phyllis M. Pfaff Scholarship
For the Non-Traditional Student at LCCC. Minimum Scholarship Award is $500.00. This scholarship was established for assisting the non-traditional student who attends Lorain County Community College. Its goal is to give financial help so that the recipient can obtain further education to support him/herself and family, which will in turn assists and improves the community. Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the Pfaff family. Scholarship selection will be based upon academic record, completion of application, financial need and the letter of recommendation. 

The Tara Marie Redmond Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a needing and deserving student attending Lorain County Community College during the 2008-09 academic year, pursuing a nursing degree. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. The recipient must demonstrate unmet need after grants and other awards.

Robert C. Ross Endowed Scholarship in Entrepreneurship
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of THE ROBERT C. ROSS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP. A needing and deserving student attending Lorain County Community College or its University Partnership will be awarded with this Scholarship. This award is intended to reward an individual who is pursuing education/learning opportunities in entrepreneurship and who meets the required criteria.

Manuel Marín Serrano Scholarship
Lorain County Community College announces the availability of The Manuel Marín Serrano Scholarship. The Scholarship will be awarded to a needing and deserving student attending Lorain County Community College. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. The scholarship seeks to recognize students who are involved in their community; particularly students who are advocates within the Latino community. The recipient must demonstrate unmet need after grants and other awards.

LCCC Carlos Martin Criminal Justice Scholarship
Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of the LCCC Carlos Martin Criminal Justice Scholarship for Academic Year 2009-2010. This award is intended to support any LCCC Criminal Justice student who meets the following criteria:

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Enrolled at least half time at LCCC
  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees and/or books

The Service Above Self Scholarship and The Robert S. Cook Memorial Scholarship
These awards are sponsored by the Elyria Rotary Club. Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of the Service Above Self Scholarship and the Robert S. Cook Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Elyria Rotary Club. These privately funded scholarships are intended to reward those individuals who are active in community service or extra-curricular activities. LCCC will award one Robert S. Cook Memorial Scholarship valued at $4,000 and two Service Above Self Scholarships valued at $2,400 each for the academic year.

SIFE Second-Year Membership Scholarship
Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of the LORAIN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SECOND-YEAR SIFE SCHOLARSHIP for Academic Year 2010-2011. This award is intended to support full or part-time LCCC students who are entering their second-year as a SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) member. You must have attended SIFE meetings; and completed SIFE project(s).

Society of Manufacturing Engineers Scholarship
The North Coast Chapter #134 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, in association with the LCCC SME Student Chapter #S-254, has established a fund to award scholarships each academic year.  The scholarship may be applied to educational expenses (tuition, fees, textbooks, supplies) incurred by the selected recipient(s) at Lorain County Community College.

Alfred R. Wolfli Scholarship for Military Veterans 
Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the availability of the Alfred R. Wolfli Scholarship for military veterans for Academic Year 2009-10. This award is intended to reward honorably discharged United States veterans attending Lorain County Community College or its University Partnership and who meet the following criteria:

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Enrolled at least half time at LCCC or the University Partnership (minimum six credit hours);
  • Demonstrate evidence of academic success;
  • Provide documentation of veteran status;
  • Active in the community, with preference given to applicants who are involved with veterans’ groups or organizations.
  • Demonstrate unmet financial need in order to attend college.
