GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CIVIC JAZZ BAND
Jeffrey Meyers, Director

Jeffrey Meyers is engaged in the type of scholarship that we secretly like best – the type that allows us to move to the rhythms. For those of us who can remember back to the 30’s and 40’s, we’ll be able to return to great sounds and feelings. For the rest of us who were born too late, we’ll be able to experience what made that time so special.  Meyers is in his 26th year as a band director in Ohio's public schools, currently at Amherst Nord Middle School and Amherst Junior High. Jeff judged saxophone auditions for the Ohio Music Education Association State Honors Band and served as saxophone section coach for that group and professionally throughout the area, has performed with the famous Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and as guest soloist with the Lorain County Community College Civic Concert Band. Meyers also teaches saxophone lessons at the College.

The Lorain County Community College Civic Jazz Band is made up of professional, amateur and student musicians from Lorain County and neighboring communities. It has become “the” place to play for area jazz musicians. College credit is available upon request or members may perform as an activity with no fees required. Rehearsals are on Thursday nights. The band has developed a reputation of presenting the finest in jazz, performing not only from the big band era but also music ranging from Dixieland to BeBop, and audiences have come to expect a wide range of music and exciting, polished performances. The band is in demand around the area to perform for various public and private functions. In 2003 the band performed for the national convention of the Musical Instrument Repair Technicians Association and in 2001 performed at the prestigious Elmhurst College Jazz Festival in Chicago. The band was also featured with the Ohio Dance Theatre in their production of “Born in the USA,” a dance celebration of jazz.
