Library & ENGL 162, College Composition II

Learning Objectives

Following the ENGL 162 library sessions, students should be able to:

  1. Define and articulate their need for information, including identification of key concepts and terms that describe their information need. (ACRL IL 1.1.e.)
  2. Construct and implement effectively-designed search strategies, including:
    • the identification of keywords, synonyms and related terms. (ACRL IL 2.2.b.)
    • the construction of a search strategy using appropriate commands for the information retrieval system selected (e.g., Boolean operators, truncation, nesting). (ACRL IL 2.2.d.)
    • the implementation of the search strategy in various information retrieval systems using different user interfaces and search engines. (ACRL IL 2.2.e.)
    • Locate and retrieve relevant sources in a variety of formats. (ACRL IL 2.3.a.)
