Associate of Applied Science in Dietetics

This associate degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Upon satisfactory completion of the Dietetic Technician program, graduates are issued a verification statement that confirms their eligibility to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) registration examination for Dietetic Technicians. Graduates of the program who successfully write the registration examination for Dietetic Technicians are entitled to use the initials "DTR" to signify professional competence. Graduates of this program are qualified to work as technicians under the supervision of a registered dietitian (R.D.) in nutrition services departments of hospitals and nursing homes, and are also employable in commercial foodservice systems. Many courses can be applied toward the B.S. degree with a major in food and nutrition (dietetics).

Admission Requirements
A completed Youngstown State University Undergraduate Admission Application must be submitted.   A non-refundable fee is required of first-time applicants.  Applicants must also submit all official credentials (high school transcripts or official GED test results, and transcripts of all previous undergraduate education college work) directly to Undergraduate Admissions, Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH 44555-0001.  YSU applications may be obtained from the LCCC University Partnership office (UC 104) or students may apply online at http://www.ysu.edu/.

In order to be accepted into the program, students must earn a letter grade of “C” or better in the following courses:

  • HMEC 1550 Human Ecology Professions
  • ENGL 1550 Writing I
  • FNUT 1551 Normal Nutrition
  • BIOL 1551/L Anatomy & Physiology 1/Lab
