A used furniture store will give LCCC Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) hands-on experience in running an actual business. The SIFE Store opened in late January with a ribbon cutting ceremony by LCCC President Dr. Roy Church.

"This is a wonderful complement to the course work these students are involved in," Church said.

The SIFE Store is located at 5296 Detroit Road, Sheffield Village, in the plaza next to Drug Mart. Store hours are Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The SIFE Store is a student run business featuring deeply discounted used office furniture that the College is no longer utilizing.

Some of the featured furniture includes:
·         Wooden Stools
·         Lounge Chairs - Faux Leather
·         Study Carrels
·         Lecterns
·         Periodical Shelving
·         Vertical File Cabinets
·         Microfilm Cabinets
·         Tables
·         Desks
·         Bookcases
·         Storage Cabinets and more

One of the criteria that the LCCC SIFE Team has to meet is the establishment of its own business.  In the past LCCC SIFE Teams sold food on campus.

"We jumped at this opportunity since it really does involve all of the facets of entrepreneurship and we have never had a project of this magnitude," said SIFE Advisor Maria McConnell.  "The successes and failures are our own and are life long learning experiences."

The students are also using the profits from the sales of this business to fund other projects and to cover some of the costs of the SIFE Team attending competitions this year, McConnell said.

"The SIFE Store presents students the opportunity for practical application of what they have learned in the classroom.  Students will get hands on experience in running a business from the ground up.  This endeavor will allow students to practice what they have studied and gain valuable experience that they can use in their future career explorations," McConnell added.
