Police Training Academy - History

The Lorain County Community College Digital Media Department followed one class of the Police Training Academy for a full season.  The digital media cameras captured the officers-in-training going through each discipline taught by the academy.  The “Eye on Campus” video attached highlights one discipline.   This is one in a sequence of EOC’s that will highlight many of the disciplines of the police academy training process.

The Lorain County Community College Police Academy’s course of training consists of approximately 640 hours of instruction.  The goal is to ready the students to take the required Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) certification test.  That test determines their ability to become a police officer.   The OPOTC requires 576 hours of curriculum.  So, LCCC’s Academy exceeds state requirements.

Police Academy classes open twice a year.  For more information on the Police Training Academy, including costs, eligibility requirements, and physical standards, please click here
