First Energy – one of the largest electric utility systems in the country – has created an affiliation with Lorain County Community College to train the next generation of top-quality, well educated and experienced line workers and substation electricians.
Through this program, students can potentially earn a two-year Accredited Associate of Applied Science Degree with a focus on Electric Utility Technology.
With the downturn in the economy, our community is returning to the classroom to remain competitive in a transitioning industry base. Finding opportunities in this economy sometimes requires creative approaches to getting employed and moving forward. Some companies are recognizing the importance of higher education as they prepare for turnover in their workforces. Some companies are committing to pay for the education and to hire the graduates. The partnership Lorain County Community College has with the First Energy PSI program is one of those examples.
