“Job” is the work of Robert Beckstrom, dean of LCCC’s arts and humanities division. The opera breathes new life into the ancient text and addresses the question of why bad things happen to good people. In the Old Testament story of Job, God and Satan make a bet based on the most upright and pious man, Job.  Satan wagers that if Job were to lose all his wealth and possessions that Job would then curse God. Job loses everything, except his unsympathetic wife, and later is covered with boils that torture him physically. Three friends come to console him with accusations, insisting that Job’s sinfulness is the cause of his misfortune.  Job pleads for justice and to have audience with God.  Finally, God speaks.

The opera is fully staged with cast, chorus and orchestra. Up-and-coming baritone Mark Wanich will play the role of Job.
