Special Olympics at LCCC

The joy of the Special Olympics is ready to return to the spotlight at LCCC.  The 13th annual North Section Basketball Tournament is set to be played on campus February 22nd-24th.  The tournament will bring more than 500 athletes with mental retardation or other developmental disabilities together for a weekend of competition and comradery.

The Special Olympics Basketball Tournament is sponsored by LCCC’s Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Student Life office.  The games are held in the main gym and the Ewing Activities Center.

Volunteers make this event happen!  We need you!  Success happens because of the commitment from our community with their time and talents.  We need scoreboard operators, scorers, announcers, singers, pep bands, cheerleaders, youth groups, artists to paint signs and concession operators to name a few.  Groups or individuals are also needed for the “Adopt-a-Team” program in which specific groups are “attached” to a specific team and serve as their “fans.”  The impact of the “Adopt-a-Team” program is heartwarming.

“The tournament at LCCC,” said North Section Special Olympics Director Joe Antonucci, “is looked upon by Special Olympics Ohio as one of its best events and the involvement from the LCCC students, staff and community is amazing.”

The Special Olympics Tournament is scheduled on the following dates and times…

February 22nd, Friday, 5:30 pm – 11:00 pm

February 23rd, Saturday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm

February 24th, Sunday,  10:00 am – 3:30 pm

If you are interested in volunteering or have questions, please contact the LCCC Student Life Office at 1-800-995-5222 (ext 4747).
