The LCCC Journalism Boot Camp will include hands-on sessions covering the topics of writing, reporting and editing; dealing with information and sources; photography and photo preparation; design and layout; editorial management; law and ethics. Speakers include reporters and editors from the Chronicle-Telegram, Sandusky Register, Plain Dealer, and Morning Journal and faculty from area colleges and universities.

Nobody reading the paper because, they say, there’s nothing new? Learn how to be the source for information on campus, and you’ll come away with a variety of ideas to adapt to your needs.
10-10:45 a.m. - The Art of the Interview

4-4:45 p.m. - Writing and Editing the News

Dr. Hendrickson introduces approaches for writing stories and appropriate techniques for editing to ease copy preparation for your publication.

9-11:45 a.m. - Pictures, Pictures Everywhere (And How to Put Them in the Paper)

How to take the photos you need and prepare them for publication. Session includes creating and cropping images, preparing them for publication in PhotoShop, and mastering ethics and captions. Participants are encouraged to bring images to work with during the session.
1-4 p.m. - Divine Design: Ryan Dawson
The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio
Learn the principles of page design; skills and tricks to use in Quark; tips for writing classy headlines; using color; creating skyboxes--and more.
4 p.m. - Closing Reception and Awards Presentations in the Lorain County Community College Regional High School Journalism Contest
