The Lorain County Community College men’s Cross Country team finished 6th at the NJCAA DIII National Cross Country Championship meet in Canandaigua,  NY on Saturday, November 8, 2014. This was the highest finish in the 6 years the program has been back at LCCC. Leading the way for the Commodores was freshman Nick Boatman, who finished 7th overall, earning All American honors.

Three women ran in the Championship Meet for LCCC, with Alycia Mathis leading the way for the Commodores with a 38th place finish out of 109 runners.

NJCAA Region XII Championship - 10/25/14

The Lorain County Community College Commodores competed in the NJCAA Region XII Championship at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, Michigan on Saturday, October 25th. The course was flat with a few rolling hills, the weather was sunny, 60 degrees, and windy. LCCC was 7th out of 11 teams, best of the two DIII teams in the region. The women did not field a complete team. The Commodores will compete next at the NJCAA DIII National Championship at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, New York on Saturday, November 8th.

Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational - 10/11/14

Lorain County Community College Cross Country team competed in the Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational on Saturday, October 11 at Pleasant Ridge park in Fairview PA. There were 5 teams in the meet. The weather was cool and dry but the course had a lot of turns and some hills to lead to slower times.  A number of LCCC runners sat out the meet with injuries.

All Ohio Cross Country Championships - October 3, 2014

Lorain County Community College competed in the All Ohio Cross Country Championships on Friday October 3. The meet was held at Cedarville University. Due to the windy conditions and threat of severe storms, the varsity and open races were combined. The LCCC men finished 38th out of 43 teams (only junior college in the meet) while the women finished 40th out of 42 teams. This marked the first meet of the season in which LCCC had a complete women’s team compete. The Commodores will compete next at the Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational on Saturday October 11th.

LCCC Hosts Commodores Invitational - September 19, 2014

Lorain County Community College hosted the annual LCCC Commodore Invitational Cross Country Meet at LCCC on Sept. 19. The meet was attended by 13 different schools, the most that have attended in the four years that the meet has been held. The attending schools were: Lorain County Community College, Lansing Community College, Macomb Community College, Cuyahoga Community College, Concordia University Ann Arbor, Jackson College, Bowling Green State University’s Club Team, Schoolcraft College, Hiram College, Wayne County Community College District, Rochester College, Ursuline College, and Glen Oaks Community College who ran unattached.

The LCCC men placed 3rd as a team, with Nick Boatman leading the way with his 2nd place finish. The women did not have a full team. Lansing Community College won both the men's and the women's team race. The Lansing Men's Team is s ranked 9th in the country in the NJCAA Division I cross country poll. Nick Boatman (Lakewood) was the only non-Lansing runner in the top 9. He was only 8 seconds slower than he ran at the Walsh University cross country race, a much easier course than LCCC (these are the two 8k races Nick has run in his college career). Nick’s finish was the highest individual finish for an LCCC runner in the 4 year history of the Commodore Invitational.

Bruce Bridgman Invitational - September 12, 2014

The Commodores traveled to Finger Lakes Community College (NY) for the Bruce Bridgman Invitational on Friday. The men finished fourth out of seven complete teams, some of which are ranked very high in the NJCAA DIII Cross Country national poll. LCCC was missing two of their top seven runners. Ben Toole led the way in the men’s 8K race with a 9th place finish out of 57 runners in 30:14, followed by Austin Buchwald (11th place, 30:38) Andre Del Valle (25th place, 32:05), Derrick Vilk (28th place, 32:13) Noah Haramia (31st place, 32:44), Zak Borer(34th place, 33:02), Quinn Miller (36th place, 33:11), Ryan Cassity (52nd place, 39:28-season best!) and Anthony Cassity (56th place, 43:11). 

The women did not have a full team this week. Mercedes Specht finished the 5K course in 6th place with a time of 21:25. Emma Russ finished 18th out of 30 runners in 25:50.

The men continue to move up the rankings in the NJCAA DIII Cross Country national poll, they are currently ranked 5th!

Ric Sayre Invitational - September 6, 2014

Lorain County Community College competed in the Ric Sayre Cross Country Invitational hosted by Walsh University on Saturday September 6th. The Commodores competed against Mount Union, Walsh, Hiram, Lake Erie College and Cuyahoga Community College. The men ran an 8K race, which was the first time running this distance for many of the team.  They were again led by freshman Nick Boatman (Lakewood HS).  The men's team finished in 3rd place and moved up in the DIII National Rankings to 8th place overall! The women did not have a complete team. The women were again led by Mercedes Specht (Bellevue HS) with an outstanding race.

Wooster Invitational - August 29, 2014

Lorain County Community College competed in the Wooster Invitational on Friday, August 29th. The meet was held on the LC Boles Golf Course on the College of Wooster campus, with rolling hills and heat and humidity of 82 degrees. The men and women both ran 5K races and there was no team scoring. LCCC was the only junior college team in the race. Other schools included Wooster, Oberlin, Point Park, Baldwin Wallace, Hiram, Franciscan. Results for the LCCC Team were as follows:

National Cross Country Championships - November 9, 2013

The Lorain County Community College Cross Country team completed their season on Saturday, November 9 at the NJCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Holyoke Community College in Massachusetts. The course was, without a doubt, the most challenging course we have seen in the five years the cross country program has been back at LCCC.

The Commodore men finished 9th out of 17 complete teams, the highest finish we have had as a team! Tyler Kvach of Avon finished 11th overall out of 130 runners, finishing the brutally hilly 8K course in a time of 28:53, earning Third Team All American honors. Tyler is the third LCCC runner in the past two years to earn All American status. Also running for the Commodores were Andre Del Valle (41st place, 30:35), Jarek Beltowski (63rd, 31:32), Marshall Farnsworth (87th, 32:20), Zak Borer (94th, 32:53), Anthony Cassity (122nd, 37:16) and Farid Sharifi (130th, 50:50).

Four women ran the 5K course for LCCC. Mercedes Specht led the way with a 60th place finish out of 97 runners in a time of 25:09. Lauren Lilly finished 64th (25:44), Elisabeth Campus finished 92nd (30:11) and Abby Tomasic finished 93rd (30:37).

Region XII Cross Country Championships - October 26, 2013

LCCC competed at the Region XII Cross Country Meet in Lansing, Michigan on Saturday October 26, hosted by Lansing Community College. The weather was cool and dry which led to a fast course. Our Men's Team finished 9th (best DIII school).  Our women also finished 9th (only DIII school). The Commodores will compete at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Meet in Holyoke Massachusetts on Saturday November 9th.

Ashland University Invitational - October 11, 2013

The Lorain County Community College Commodores competed in the Ashland University Invitational on Friday October 11. The meet was held at Brookside Golf Course in Ashland, The warm, sunny weather and the flat course, with some gradual inclines, led to some fast times. The men took third place out of three full teams. Charlie Michel of Ashland won the men’s 8K race with a time of 26:21. Season best performances were set by three Commodores: Tyler Kvach, Andre Del Valle and Jarek Beltowski.

Due to some injuries, illnesses and class conflicts, Lauren Lilly was the only LCCC woman to compete in the women’s 5K race, won by Ashland’s Taylor Cropper in 19:22.

The Commodores compete next in the NJCAA Region XII meet in Lansing Michigan on Saturday, October 26. The men’s team is currently ranked 7th in the NJCAA DIII poll.

All Ohio Intercollegiate Championships - October 4, 2013

The Commodores competed in the All Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships at Cedarville University on Friday October 4th. The course was in great shape, and the weather was very hot and humid for October! The men finished 37th out of 41 full teams. There were 289 runners in the men’s 8K race. Running for the Commodores were Tyler Kvach (170th, 28:35), Andre DelValle (221st, 30:05), Marshall Farnsworth (244th, 31:38), Jarek Beltowski (250th, 32:06), Zak Borer (250th, 32:39), Anthony Cassity (269th, 34:33) and Farid Sharifi (289th, 45:41). The men are currently ranked 7th in the NJCAA DIII national poll.

Mercedes Specht led the women, finishing the 6K course in 27:20, good for 214th place out of 283 runners. Also running for LCCC were Lauren Lilly (264th, 31:54) and Cassandra Snyder (276th, 34:57). The Commodores will run next at Ashland University on Friday October 11th.

Commodore Invitational - September 20, 2013

The Commodores hosted the LCCC Commodore Invitational on a beautiful, and warm, Friday afternoon. Ten schools competed this year, with Macomb winning the men’s race and Ursuline capturing the women's title. LCCC finished third out of seven complete teams on the men’s side, while the women took fourth out of four complete teams. The team competes next in the All Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship Meet hosted by Cedarville University on October 4th. The men’s and women’s teams are both currently ranked 7th in the weekly NJCAA DIII national poll.

Bruce Bridgeman Invitational - September 14, 2013

The Lorain County Community College Cross Country teams competed in the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College, on Saturday. The men finished 2nd out of 7 teams, the women finished 3rd out of 3 complete teams. Running for the Commodores in the men’s race were Tyler Kvach (2nd place, 29:09) Andre Del Valle (11th, 30:26), Marshall Farnsworth (16th, 31:37), Zachary Borer (18th, 31:46), Jarek Beltowski (20th, 31:53), Anthony Cassity (34th, 35:19) and Farid Sharifi (46th, 41:31). There were 52 finishers in the men’s 8K race. The Commodores moved up to 6th in the NJCAA Division III national poll with these results.

Running for the women in the 5K race were Mercedes Specht (4th place, 22:09), Lauren Lilly (16th, 25:31) Briquelle March (20th, 26:58) Abigail Tomasic (22nd, 28:32) Elisabeth Campus (24th, 30:50) and Cassandra Snyder (25th, 32:02) There were 27 finishers in the women’s race. The LCCC women remain ranked 9th in the NJCAA DIII national poll.

Next up for the Commodores is the LCCC Commodore Invitational at our home LCCC course on Friday, September 20th. The women race at 4:00 pm, followed by the men at 4:45 pm.

Ric Sayre Invitational - September 7, 2013

The Lorain County Community College Commodore Cross Country team competed in the Ric Sayre Invitational hosted by Walsh University on Saturday. The women came in 7th out of 7 teams, while the men took 5th out of 6 teams. Teams included Walsh, Mount Union, John Carroll, Cuyahoga Community College, Notre Dame College and LCCC. Tyler Kvach led the men, coming in 43rd out of 83 men with a time of 28:32 on the 8k course. Also running for LCCC were Andre Del Valle (57th place, 29:53), Marshall Farnsworth (66th place, 31:08), Jarek Beltowski (67th place 31:30) Zachary Borer (70th place 32:35) and Farid Sharifi (80th place 42:11).

The women were paced by Mercedes Specht, who covered the 5K course in 22:53, good for 63rd place in the 79 woman field. Other LCCC runners were Lauren Lilly (69th place 24:24), Briquelle march (73rd place, 26:29), Abbigail Tomasic (76th place, 29:00) and Cassandra Snyder (79th place, 32:25).

The Commodores travel to Finger Lakes Community College for a meet against NJCAA Division III schools on September 14th.

Honors Earned by Cross Country Team

Congratulations to the cross country team which earned honors after their first competition! The Lorain County Community College Women’s Cross Country team is ranked 9th in the country in the initial NJCAA Division III Cross Country poll out this week.

Tyler Kvach of LCCC was named the NJCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for his 5th place finish at the Wooster Invitational on August 30th. Way to go Commodores!!

Wooster Invitational - August 30, 2013

The Commodore Cross Country team kicked off the 2013 season at the Wooster Invitational on August 30th. There was no team scoring at this meet. Teams included LCCC, Wooster, Oberlin, Baldwin Wallace and Franciscan. LCCC was the only junior college team in the race. Weather conditions were very hot and humid.

The Men ran a 5K race and the Women ran a 4K race. Leading the Commodores was Tyler Kvach, who earned NJCAA DIII Runner of the Week for his 5th place finish in 18:09. Also running for LCCC were: Andre Del Valle (12th place, 19:06), Marshall Farnsworth (14th place, 19:35), Jarek Beltowski (19th place, 20:17), and Zak Borer (24th place, 20:47). Anthony Cassity also ran for LCCC, but was injured during the race. There were 35 finishers in the Men’s race.

On the Women’s side, LCCC was paced by Mercedes Specht, who covered the 4K distance in 20:01, good for a 35th place finish out of 47 runners. Also running for LCCC were Lauren Lilly (40th place, 21:04), Briquelle March (43rd place, 21:15), Abby Tomasic (46th place, 24:34), and Cassandra Snyder (47th place, 26:15). The women are currently ranked 9th in the NJCAA DIII national poll.

The Commodores compete next at the Ric Sayre Invitational hosted by Walsh University on September 7th.
