Avanzando Through College

Avanzando Through College is a learning community that is open to Latinx (Latino/Hispanic) first-year, second year and transfer students. The year-long program starts in fall semester as a 10-week course fulfilling the New Student Experience requirement for two-credits. During spring semester, students will participate in special events, peer mentoring, and academic support.
Avanzando Through College has three goals:
- Help new students identify student services
- Improve academic performance
- Graduate
Course Content
This course uses a culturally tailored curriculum to support students navigate the higher education system and provides learning strategies for creating success in college while forming meaningful relationships with their peers. Classes are structured around discussion and group learning, covering important skills and offering advice related to college life to enhance your academic journey at LCCC, including:
- Building Relationships
- Mental Health Awareness
- Studying Skills
- Time Management
- Financial Awareness
- As an incentive to program participation and course completion, a $500 stipend is offered to support educational expenses
