2022 Baseball Season Closes With Losses To Owens and Delta in NJCAA Region XII Tournament

May 12, 2022 – – The Lorain County Community College baseball team was eliminated from postseason play in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament Wednesday afternoon following losses to Owens Community College, 12-0, and Terra State Community College, 12-1, at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, OH. LCCC finishes the 2022 season, their first in three years due to the pandemic, at 7-29 overall.
Game one saw the Commodores keep pace with the Express for the first inning as Ezekiel Rivera (Lorain, OH/Lorain HS) was able to get out of the first frame with no damage after Owens loaded the bases.
LCCC managed to get only two baserunners in game one with Nick Werth (Vermilion, OH/Vermilion HS) leading off the top of the first with a walk and then got into scoring position with a stolen base. Anthony Arkey (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake HS) reached base in the fourth but was doubled up at second base after a sharp line drive by Nate Cruz (Lorain, OH/Clearview HS) to the Owens shortstop.
Game two against Delta College, who had just lost a thrilling extra inning contest with Terra State 5-4, didn’t turn out much better for the Commodores as the Pioneers scored five runs in the first inning off starter Cody DeVos (Bay Village, OH/Bay HS).
Bryce Francyk (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick HS) went 2-for-2 in game two and had the Commodores lone RBI on the afternoon in the third inning.
Rocky Houston (Grafton, OH/Keystone HS) relieved DeVos and went 3.1 innings pitched with two strikeouts before Casey Ison (Amherst, OH/Marion L. Steele HS) finished top of the fifth.
