Baseball Drops Opening Day Doubleheader to Westmoreland
March 1, 2020 – – The Lorain County Community College Baseball Team kicked off their 2020 season on the road today against Westmoreland but dropped both ends of the double-header by scores of 13-3 and 8-2.
In his LCCC debut, Freshman Pitcher, Evan Lacey (Amherst/Firelands) struck out five, walked eight, and gave up six earned runs in the 13-3 five-inning loss. The Commodores were unable to overcome six fielding errors and mustered just three runs. Zach Nilges (Elyria/Midview) doubled for the Commodores, while Matt Thompson (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) and Jacob Johnson (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron STEM) each had a single and a run scored. Jared Naida (Cleveland/Lakewood) scored a run after drawing a walk to get on base and Wayne Naida (Cleveland/Lakewood) logged the only RBI for LCCC in the opener.
Casey Ison (Amherst/Amherst Steele) took the 8-2 loss in game two. In five-innings pitched, he gave up seven earned runs, struck out seven, and walked three. Nilges tripled for his second extra-base hit of the day and scored a run. Jared Naida had a hit and a run scored, while Wayne Naida and Nathan Cruz (Lorain/Clearview) each had an RBI for the Commodores.
Head Coach, Bill Frawley, said after the games, “It was our first day playing outside this season and we just made too many defensive errors to overcome.”
LCCC is back in action for their home opener against Schoolcraft College at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Sprenger Stadium in Avon.
