Columbus State Tops Women’s Basketball in OCCAC Play
January 11, 2020 – – The Lorain County Community College Women’s Basketball Team hung in there for a while with the 12th-ranked NJCAA team in the nation but eventually succumbed to Columbus State in an 83-55 loss. LCCC drops to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in the always-tough OCCAC conference.
Freshman forward, Vanecia Billings (Lorain/Clearview) once again led the way for LCCC by scoring a season-high 26 points and snagging 13 rebounds. Billings has proven herself as one of the best rebounders in the nation, as she currently ranks third in the NJCAA for total rebounds, amongst Division III athletes.
Kelsey Gannon (Avon) added nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals for the Commodores, while Kelsey Simmerly (Avon Lake) had eight rebounds, two assists, and led the team with four steals.
LCCC travels to Division II Lakeland Community College for an OCCAC contest at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
