Commodore Volleyball Defeats DII Lakeland for First Conference Win
September 11, 2019 – – Lorain County Community College, the NJCAA’s 8th ranked Division III team, played host today to Lakeland Community College in an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference matchup. The Commodores made quick work of the Division II Lakers winning 25-14, 25-18, and 25-20.
LCCC Head Coach, Ted Whitsel, commented, “We started off the match really well and took care of the ball, but got a little sloppy in the second set before cleaning it up again in the third. Our middle play tonight was outstanding, and Kara was smart to keep feeding them the ball.”
Lydia Solak (LaGrange/Christian Community School) exploded for a team and season-high 16 kills, going 22 for 28 on attacks. Vanecia Billings (Lorain/Clearview) joined in the fun and put down 9 kills on a 17 of 19 effort.
Offensive quarterback, Kara Sullinger (N. Ridgeville) dished out 33 assists (82-83) and had a team-high 18 digs in the victory. Maddie Markovich (Sheffield Village/Christian Community School) was spectacular from the service stripe…going 19 for 19 with 4 aces, plus added 12 digs.
The Commodores are back in action at home Friday, September 13, 2019, against Columbus State Community College, the NJCAA’s 3rd ranked team nationally in Division III in an OCCAC battle. Lorain is now 9-4 on the year and 1-1 in OCCAC conference play.
