Commodores Right the Ship with Wins Over Penn State
April 16, 2019 – – The Lorain County Community College Men’s Baseball team got a couple of big road wins today over Penn State New Kensington, winning game one 12-4 and the nightcap 13-2. Both pitchers threw complete games for the Commodores and with the victories, LCCC improves to 9-15 on the season.
Jared Naida (Cleveland/Lakewood) was brilliant from the bump in game one, allowing no earned runs and improving upon his 0.75 ERA, which currently ranks him second nationally in the NJCAA. Damion Coleman (Niles/Niles McKinley) went 3 for 4 with a homerun and two RBI’s; Anthony Lavisky (Avon Lake/St. Edward) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s, and Eli Henderson (Toledo/Whitmer) was 3 for 5 to lead the offense.
On the mound in game two was Domenic Fleming (Columbia Station/Midview) in his first appearance since a 10-inning complete game win on April 7th over OSU Mansfield. Fleming struck out 5 and improved to 4-2 on the year. Naida provided great run support for his fellow pitcher, going 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, 3 RBI’s, and 4 runs scored. Coleman got in on the action as well, capping off an outstanding day at the plate by going 3 for 3, with 4 RBI’s, and homerun number two.
LCCC Head Coach Bill Frawley, said after the game, “Our pitching was great, and we scored 25 runs on the day, so everything was clicking for us.”
Up next for the Commodores is a single game matchup against Oberlin College JV on Monday, April 22, 2019. Game time is at 5 pm at Oberlin College.
