Commodores Suffer Late-Inning Loss to Oberlin College
April 22, 2019 – – Domenic Fleming (Columbia Station/Midview) went the distance for the Commodores but Lorain County Community College came up short against Oberlin JV, losing 5-4 in the 9-inning game. The loss drops LCCC to 9-16 on the year.
In his 7 starts this season, Fleming has pitched 5 complete games, ranking him 2nd in the NJCAA National Stats. He is 4-3 with a 2.70 ERA. Despite the loss today, Fleming pitched well…only giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 7 with no walks.
LCCC Head Coach, Bill Frawley, commented “Dom pitched a great game, but two critical errors late in the game allowed Oberlin to score and get the win.”
Lorain was down 3-0 early in the contest but came back with 2 runs in the 4th and another in the 6th to tie the game. The Yeoman scored runs in the 7th and the 8th off the errors to regain the lead. LCCC added a run in the top of the 9th with 2 outs but were unable to bring home another run as their hits just couldn’t find the gaps.
Eli Loveland (Toledo/Whitmer) went 2 for 3 with a walk, while Justin Ciccone (Youngstown/Western Reserve) and Damion Coleman (Niles/Niles McKinley) each had an RBI.
The Commodores head to local rival Tri-C this Wednesday, April 24, 2019, for a recently scheduled contest.
