Commodores Win at Hocking College, 87-69, to Wrap Up 23-5 Regular Season; Head to NJCAA Region XII Championship Game For Second Straight Year

The Lorain County Community College men’s basketball team — ranked 11th in this week’s NJCAA D-III poll — concluded a very successful season on Saturday night, February 24, with an 87-69 victory at Hocking College. The Commodores will play Columbus State on Tuesday evening, Feb. 27, for the NJCAA Region XII championship at Ohio Christian University at 7:30 p.m.
LCCC was led by its top two scorers, sophomore guard Mike Rell (pictured) and sophomore forward Daniel Lott (pictured below) with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Lott scored all 18 of his points in the second half.
Sophomore forward Zach Swain also scored in double figures with 11 points while sophomore forward Miles Meredith tallied nine points — all in the first half — to help lead the Commodores to a 38-30 advantage at the intermission. Three Commodores added six points apiece — freshman guard Luis Santiago, sophomore forward Deric Nichols and freshman guard Oscar Dorsey, who scored all six of his points after halftime.
“We rebounded well and stepped up our defense in the second half to force some turnovers,” Head Coach Marty Eggleston stated. “It was a solid regular season (23-5 record); now the post-season begins,” Eggleston noted.
LCCC concludes the regular season with a 23-5 record overall and 12-4 in the OCCAC (3rd place behind Cuyahoga CC and Owens CC). Hocking ends the season with an overall record of 11-19 and 3-13 in the OCCAC.
Tuesday night’s game is a rematch of last year’s NJCAA Region XII championship game, won by the Commodores, 107-104, in overtime. LCCC and Columbus State split the two-games in this year’s regular season with each team winning at home. CSCC finished this season 16-9 overall and 10-6 in the OCCAC, in 4th place.
